Strange IndvisionAGA flicker issue
Just when you think everything is sorted, you find out that you have a problem
I've just started to use my main Indvision equipped Miggy in anger and I've noticed that after 15-20mins I get some big flicker issues in WB. It always works fine when I first switch it on and always occurs after 15-20 mins so I'm thinking that it's hardware and heat related. I've tried fondling my chipset and the only chips that seems on the warm side are the 030 and the Indivision chips. Only workbench and the Indivision boot logo are affected by the flicker, games still seem to run without any flicker which is strange. I'm using HighGFX v40.6 running at 1024x768 using the standard refresh rate and I've flashed the Indivision to v1.2 final. I've also tried some other screen modes and the problem is the same. At first I thought it was my old CRT mucking around but I get the same issue when I plug in my new TFT. I've already checked the Indivision to make sure it's secure and it's fine (the MB is a ID4 with a CBM Lisa). I'm not running any custom patches, just OS 3.9 with BB2. Anyone got any other ideas or experienced the same kind of issue? Thanks |

I think you've got an expansion problem with your Indivision. Perhaps you have not fitted it firmly enough or perhaps your Lisa chip is particularly fussy. HP manufactured packaging is known to be more susceptible to bad connections.

I hope it's not an expansion problem |

Yup that is a commodore one, reportedly the best fit for Indivision.
Maybe you've just not pressed hard enough to fit it? |

No, I've got a feeling it's the Indivision itself. The last one that I brought and fitted on another ID4 worked without any issues. I'll try the Indivision on another ID4 that I've got and if that doesn't work, I'll have to send it back. Last edited by NovaCoder; 15 December 2008 at 01:09. |

I removed everything apart from my Blizzard 030 Mk4, even the software is just a standard OS3.9 install (no patches apart from BB2). My PS is the standard brick but I know that's not the problem because my last Amiga with the same setup (and using the same PS) was fine. I'm not using a HD, using a CF instead.

Check the voltage filter capacitors, they could be a source of problems.

Nova I had the exact same problem with my !D4 Mb running OS3.5 with bb1 & 2..the problem was solved by re-seating the Indivision! I know you might think it is on very good but trust me do it again...also some people have also used siliocne to keep it down onto the mb...good luck

yep thats right!...it was fine when the system was cold and would flicker once it got hot...I figured the mb &/or the Indivision card would slighty expand wiht the heat and lose some connectivity as it wasnt tightly installed enough...after I re-seated it firmly I also added heatsinks onto my Blizzard 030@50 & 3.1 rom chips & a small cooling fan on the 1200 case to keep the system a bit cooler...works great since

Yep I noticed your heatsinks, prob a good idea as my 030 gets warm enough to heat the surface of the desk up The Indivision also gets pretty warm but my Lisa seems pretty cool. Some people have said that the 020 gets warm when using an accelerator but on my ID4 it stays cold. |

Well I didn't want to do it but I was left with no choice, yesterday I performed the infamous 'sanding mod' on my poor old IndyVision. I'd tried using huge amounts of force to keep the sucker down but it just wasn't happening for me. Anyway, the sanding mod *seems* to have done the trick and now all is well again
My advice to people who are going to fit an Indivision is to stick it on and then leave it on, I think after a few attempts it all gets a bit wobbly. Last edited by NovaCoder; 14 January 2009 at 03:27. |

@Novacoder
Glad you got it sorted mate, I agree with you once in leave it alone. Mine has stayed put in my 030 A1200 Since October and it's settled nicely. TC |
