Amiga 2000 EATX Released

I am proud to announce the first production release of the Amiga 2000 EATX PCB. This is something I have been working on for several months. This is an Amiga 2000 in the EATX form factor. It is an open source project and available on Github.

Based on the Amiga 2000 Rev 6.2, although some modifications were made from the original. All the info is on Github. Enjoy!

Nice! You're up and running with one, how is it? What's different apart from the form factor?

Eh, ignore that question, I'm reading the GitHub. Congratulations!

I'll miss not having a Varta near the CPU though

Rock solid as far as I can test it. Passes memory tests with flying colors, AIBB doesn't break it. Ran it for hours on end without issue.

I have tested it with an A2630, Supra WordSync SCSI, and my own version of the Pi -> HDMI card. You can see that setup in the Lemmings picture on the main Github repo page.

Very nice - how many hardware iterations did you end up going through? Was it more or less than the listed revisions on your github?

Just the ones listed on Github. The changes list probably isn't exhaustive, but it's close.

Unfortunately, no. It was a conscious decision to stick with the 8372A, which is comparatively common and works in both NTSC and PAL systems.

8375's are mostly non-existent in NTSC land. I have intentions of making another revision that supports the A600 version of the 8375...but I need someone with an 8375 who is willing to build the board and test. Should be easy enough. I think the RAM circuit will work as-is, with new routing from 8375. I'll need to do more homework to know for sure.

If one of the Agnus replacements comes to light...that would be a game changer.

There is some discussion on the Issues tab of the github page about ordering these boards with most (or all?) the SMD components mounted. Depending on where everyone is located, there may be an opportunity to share in an order.

What about MegAChip 2MB? MegAChip can go on A500 and A2000...

Congratulations. This is a very good project.

One question... like the A2000 there doesn't appear (to me) to be a video slot inline with a Zorro II slot?

Does that means RTG cards with integrated scan-doublers, like the Picasso IV, still have to be "snapped in half" to fit?

I am sure this was a conscious decision (like not supporting 8375 2MB Agnus) but I'm curious to know your thinking.

I am sure this board would work with a MegAChip if it physically fits.

Hmm...this is a use case I did not consider. If it is of interest, you an add it to the issues tab on the github page as an enhancement request for a future revision.

On the other hand if someone has the idea to put a Video Toaster or one of the larger Video Slot boards in the machine it might prevent the use of the Zorro slot. It's fine as it is I think. Though it would be nice if you could squeeze another ISA slot in.

Someone find a nice ATX desktop case, also make an A2600 sticker to go on it.
This one looks alright, only one 5.25" bay so maybe CDTV-III would be a better sticker.

Or maybe this one for two 5.25" bays one could be used as an 3 1/2" bay.

I am not sure the first case is large enough as it does not list EATX. The second case should work. The main issue is ensuring full length zorro and coprocessor cards will fit.

That second case was mentioned in a thread I started on the github page...

That would be amazing! I'd be happy to be the tester for you. I have non-working A600 and A2000 donor boards that'd be perfect for this project. I also have a 286 bridgeboard to test the ISA slots.

If possible, in a future revision, having a fourth ISA slot will make a huge difference as it allows a VGA card, multi IO card and soundcard to be installed (with the bridgeboard taking up the fourth slot)

Thanks for making this project possible.

Cool. Keep an eye on the github page. No guarantees, but I'll try to pull the 8375 revision together over the next two weeks, or so.
