New Zealand Story - small sample loops causing squeals

I'm having problems getting New Zealand Story working with WinUAE and playing the in-game music properly. Some samples seem to have a very small loop at the end that results in some very high frequency squeals playing when the sample should be quiet. It makes tha game unplayable for me because I can't ignore it. I've tried whdload images and some floppy images as well as different WinUAE settings (OCS/AGA/cycle exact / not cycle exact, blitter waits, etc).

Does anyone remember if this is was a problem with the game on real hardware? I didn't play it much back then so I can't remember, although I do remember sample loop problems on some games/demos.
