Amiga Hall of Fame 1988 (nominations)

Amiga Hall of Fame 1988

Previous Winners:
1985/86: Defender of the Crown
1987: Arkanoid

So the year is 1988:

U.S. and Canada reach free trade agreement (Jan. 2)

Republicans nominate George Bush for president and Indiana senator Dan Quayle for vice president (Aug. 15.)

Pan-Am 747 explodes from terrorist bomb and crashes in Lockerbie, Scotland, killing all 259 aboard and 11 on ground (Dec. 21).

Also in 1988 the Amiga began to overtake the Atari ST in the marketplace with more games being released that simply could not be done on the ST.

1988 Nominations

There are 500+ HOL entries for 1988. From a quick scan through I picked out three nominations to go through to the final poll, they are:

Dungeon Master, Elite and F/A-18 Interceptor.

Now what I want from you guys is to nominate some more games that are of this standard, and be tough. Last time we had 28 games and 10 of those didn’t even get a single vote, so to speed things up we need games of equal quality to the big three mentioned above. So that’s it 1988 and as good as the big three.

I'll chip in Level 9's Jewels of Darkness trilogy; the apogee of all text adventures.

That being said; Dungeon Master gets my vote; which is part objective, and part tainted by nostalgia (DM was one of those games I saw as a Speccy owner, and it 'sold' the Amiga to me...)

My unconfirmed rumour of the day is: I heard that Dungeon Master was responsible for the sale of more 512k memory expansions than any other game.

If it isnt true it should be.

Just had a thought, I wont add a game to the nomination list until its got two nominations (from different people), this will I hope cut down on the problem we had last time with over a third of nominations getting zero votes. I am hoping that by the time we get to the 'big years' I will have this system running perfectly.

Also, would you like the voting in the final poll to be public or private? I got good feedback from the last polls Public voting, but let me know if your against it too. PM or email me if you would rather air your view on that in private.

Other than those mentioned... These were ones I liked.

Starglider 2
Sidewinder
Menace
Katakis
Fusion
Buggy Boy

PUBLIC VOTING!!!!! IF YOU DON'T DO PUBLIC VOTING I WILL BOYCOTT THESE THREADS
(takes all the fun away in private ones).

Not sure about the 2 votes thing... Some people might LOVE a really obscure game that nobody else has played/liked.

They can still post a nomination for the game (to show thier love for it), but if no one else liked/knew it then in the poll it would only get one vote. The worry I have about keeping the nominations low is that it will effect the top games, in that less of there votes will be lost to obscure or cult games.

So far (with the two votees to enter rule) we have:

Dungeon Master
Elite
F/A-18 Interceptor
Xenon

And those awaiting a second vote are:

Barbarian (Palace)
Battle Chess
Carrier Command
Great Giana Sisters, The
IK+
Pacmania
Speedball
Super Hang-On
Virus
Wizball
World Class Leaderboard
Zany Golf
Jewels of Darkness trilogy
Hybris
Nebulus
Starglider 2
Sidewinder
Menace
Katakis
Fusion
Buggy Boy
