OS 4.1FE classic installer does not see HDD

Hello there,

I am trying to install OS 4.1FE classic, following the steps over here https://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-onlin...uae/index.html

But after partitioning the hard disk file it does not show up as device, when trying to install OS 4.1

I created a dynamic 2GB file with WinUAE 4.9 (it shows as 16kb vhd) and after doing the partitions the file is around 510kb. So I think, it should have created partitions.

But the is 4.1 installer only sees DF0: and the CD rom - no hdd

I also tried with another vhd file (it was the work drive from an older installation) so it had data and file system on it. This one showed up in the installer!

So there is maybe something wrong with WinUae creating Harddisk-files??

Cheers,
Elo

If it works for everybody else then it can hardly be caused by WinUAE.

Did you click on RDB mode when you added the hardfile? (Step 3)

Hmmm, I thought it maybe not works just with latest WinUAE.
If nobody else did try to install with latest version, nobody else would have been encountered this problem

Now, a lot of menus look different from the version you did on your tutorial, so this idea may not be far fetched, I guess.

Anyways, I left everything at default when creating the hard file.
I think it said RDB/SFS/something else in the options (default WinUAE 4.9.something)

The differences are marginal. The button I am talking about is now called "Full drive / RDB mode" instead of "Enable RDB mode", but its function is still the same. You have to click on it so that it is greyed out, otherwise partitioning won't work.

This "marginal difference" was the key to get the harddisk working
If the button is not pressed, you can use the Media-Tool to partition the disk and add a filesystem (even save works)

But after this, the installer does not see the harddisk.

So thank you, Thomas - this little press of a button was the solution.

Maybe you can help out with another one:

It looks like there is some icon missing (or just shown wrong on a dialog)

The Icon for "warning" (sorry, it looks like I can not attach an images to my posting?!) is just shown completely pink! (looks like this is the only one, so far)

I think it occurred, after I played with the screen-settings ?!

And I also added another harddsikfile - I can partition it with media tool, but after saving and exiting the tool, it still says "wirklich beenden, disks wurden verändert, Änderungen gehen verloren"? WTF?! I had pushed the save button a few times, just to be sure

Looks like the 2nd disk does not show up (I added this to the cyberstrom accelerator board a well, ofc)

ok - the pinky-icon problem was caused by too high color-depth (32bit) in screensettings - going a notch down to 16 brought back the icon

If you add a new drive you have to save changes on the old drive, too.

I got it working now - this time, I did not press the "Full Drive RDB" button and now it showed up on Workbench and I could format it without problems. I guess this "Full RDB Mode thing" is only needed for the (main) bootable harddrive, connected to the accelerator?!

I just added a "non full RDB" with UAE instead of assigning it to the accelerator - and boom it just works

aaaahhhh, well - now I can start working

thanks for help!
