Just decided to resurrect my Amiga500's
I got small pile of A500's. 2 500 and one 500 +.
Would like to get the plus going but presently its not too well. Its been up in the loft for quite a few years. It powers up ( well the LED lights ![]() On pulling it to bits the battery has leaked and lifted a lot of the green varnish around that area. I've cleaned it up a bit . ![]() ![]() I know its hard to diagnose just from a description but can anyone give me clue where to start. the 500's work ok .. so would happy to make /repair the plus from parts nicked off the others ? heres hoping ... Chris PS Still got a larger pile of working 1200's to keep me happy ![]() ![]() Last edited by ceedy; 17 February 2011 at 19:46. |

Need more pictures of areas with "green alien acid venom" (aka. battery acid)!
First use something like lemon juice to neautralize the green corruption, then add flux + new shiny solder. Some components might break off because of the attack so you might need to get new ones. |

The only damage is that in the photo's , nowhere else .. and nothing at all on the PCB underside. Can't see any component legs broken thro'. just the copper with pitting . No nasty smells from any Caps. ? Piccy.. ![]() its an 8A version board dated 91/92 Chris Last edited by ceedy; 17 February 2011 at 21:01. |

I think these two areas are damaged as far as I can tell (the diode pin is definitely broken off):

You have to check with a multimeter all tracks close to the battery solder point as the damage can be not visible Last edited by Graham Humphrey; 17 February 2011 at 21:58. Reason: 'Quote' tag fixed |

Just been right in there with a Eye glass and microscope
.diode definately OK and not broken . can't see any tracks gone in the other area either the only place where the copper has gone is is a patch on the large ground plane area. Will bridge that with some wire just in case but all the tracks ring out as ok .. so looks like its isn't as bad as it looks pcb wise. Now will have to find a coin battery holder off something to pop in place Well yippee.... just popped on the keyboard A520 single video cable powered up and ... A boot Screen!!! ... so a great improvemtn on 3 hours ago!! .. .off to pop. in a battery and varnish over the PCB bits. No to find out if the floppy and ram expansion are ok . thanks for the assistance.. Mind you I'm bound to be back with some other problem take care all Chris PS ...Now to try and get a picture on the big Toshiba LCD ?? Last edited by TCD; 18 February 2011 at 07:53.
