Super Hang on Trivia

The trivia for Super Hang On, a load of bollocks surely?

Other than sound, and a few intro bits, the "bespoke" Amiga version looks the same as the Atari ST version, but the trivia gives the impression that what ZZKJ did for the Amiga version prompted them to redo the graphics just for the Amiga version........ except the graphics are the same in the ST version as well.

I looked at youtube videos of both versions, and there seem to be some differences in the graphics too, although they're so small that they're hard to notice.

For example the player sprite looks a little bit different: in the Atari ST version the helmet is totally white, but in the Amiga version there are two stripes in it.

And also the lines in the biker's suits are one pixel wide in the Atari ST version, while in the Amiga version they're two pixels wide.

But apart from small stuff like this, the graphics of both versions look and are almost the same.

Also I checked the game in the WinUAE visual debugger, and it uses copper for the sky and ground lines. And the flame effect when you use the nitro is made with sprites, and so is the text that flashes in the screen when you reach a checkpoint.

Also the Amiga version seems to run faster, most likely thanks to blitter use for drawing the objects.

So it seems that this is indeed an "Amiga enhanced" port, even though the improvements aren't that big.

---

They should have at least made the Player bike with sprites, which could then have it's own 16 colors; this simple change would have made the game look much better.

Fired up both and can see they are very similar. The Amiga version is better. Perhaps they imported most graphics but gave it a polish on the Amiga. Like the loading screen on the Amiga is excellent, and with Music. Missing on the ST version.

But at no point does the Amiga version look "bespoke", there are differences but certainly not enough for an ST owner who moved to Amiga to go "Wow, look, its amazing!"

The difference between Robocop 2 on ST and Amiga, now there is a bespoke version for the Amiga.

I quite agree here. the graphics are horrible because they did them with degas elite or something like that. 16 colors locked on 512 colors palette.

Very honestly, this is a game for which i have the arcade assets with the right colors (hum hum ).

For sure not a dedicated Amiga version. You do see the sky is better on the Amiga version so they are using more colors there. A somewhat lazy ST port for sure! Not a straight ST port like many other games.
