turrican vs super metroid

Hi guys,
I played a little super metroid, i heard often it's the turrican of the snes or things like that... But i wasn't impressed by super metroid and i don't think that it's better than turrican.
What do you think about super metroid ??? better than turrican ??

It's different game, sure both got platforms, but they are both awesome in their own style.

I don't think it's anywhere near turricans quality. Though still doesn't mean it's a bad game at all. There's a lot of enjoyment to get out of it.

Super Metroid is almost the perfect free roaming platform/shooter.

Super Metroid is brilliant in its own way. Sure, there are similarities to be found between the two, but they're very different as gaming experience goes. I prefer Turrican, but that's just preference. Having said that, Turrican 2's soundtrack is -imo- largely superior both in terms of arrangement quality and pure sound quality (but that's just Paula being superior to its peers).

Super Metroid regularly wins the best game of all time title in console polls, and I would agree it's got to be one of them. Turrican is quite good but nowhere near as polished imo. While the games are similar for me they are quite different. Turrican has it's set levels where Metroid is just one massive level, doing something 8 hours in opens up areas you could see when you first started for example, it's more exploration based and rewards curiosity. Turrican's gameplay is more primitive but that's just my opinion. Both are fine games and I own both originals

Turrican's core gameplay is based on Psycho-Nics Oscar, as Manfred Trenz said ages ago. He loved the Arcade machine. The leveldesign might be inspired by Metroid, but it's more Contra than Metroid.

never heard of Psycho-Nics Oscar, just watching the longplay now, i can certainly see the influence, especially some of the bosses.

Metroid has that turning into a spinny ball thing, though.

The games aren't similar enough to compare. But given the choice of which one to play it has to be Super Metroid.

Super Metroid is nice. But it can be boring sometimes running from A to B, back to C then to A again.

I played Super Metroid to the end. Loved the game. The graphics, special effects and music were all great (at the time).

Don't think I ever played Turrican 1 beyond level 2.

Why?

Probably because in Super Metroid you could save your position? You never had to play through a section you had already completed.

IMHO Turrican is more of a linear arcade play where Super Metroid has high RPG elements in it. Even original metroid was cool, and later GBA versions were well made as well. One of reason I have GameCube was 2 metroid games.

Agreed, Metroid Prime 1 & 2 on the GameCube are fantastic.

How long did you play Super Metroid for? It does take a little while to get engrossed in it, but it is a great game.

I started playing SM for the first time last month. Haven't finished it yet but its an awesome game so far. The graphics look a bit repetitive at first but after a while you just get absorbed in the atmosphere. And when you get more weapon upgrades things start to open up a lot more. Definitely stick with it.

Turrican 2 is good but Super metroid is made by real pros of the Japanese industry. It is easily one of the best games ever made!
