'software failure'

Hello all,

I remember this dreaded screen on my amiga, but is there anyone who can tell me what is causing this to happen on my emulator, and is there anything I can do to avoid it?

Many thanks

Games which are badly coded usually bring this screen up
The screen also comes up when you decide to really push the Amiga to it's limits and muck around with every little thing

There's no way to avoid it as far as I know

Speaking of those things. I remember someone saying something about the screen going to a color shortly before showing the error which would give you a clue as to what's wrong. Does someone know something about this? I'd like to play Rainbow islands on my A1200 but every time I play it plays like 2 seconds whereafter the screen goes red for a second and then shows the software error.

http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/docs/misc/amigaboot.txt - That's the colour screen thingy, but it won't help you with Rainbow Islands. The colours it explains are only for when you turn your machine on. It's a quick system check

It was only called a Guru Meditation on Kickstart 1.3 and below

On 2.0 and above, it was known as a Software Failure

Actually my A600 when it worked never said 'guru meditation' but 'software failure'.

When I went round to someones house they had a A500 and it said 'guru meditation' not 'software failure'.

Why did they rename it?

My A1200 says software failure too, but I think that the word "guru meditation" is still present somewhere in the message. Can't remember.

Guru meditation is NOT present anywhere on your message Drake. It only says Software Failure.

Guru meditation was taken out

So the message on the T-shirt from errorwear is from an A500? It says both things

I just took this screenshot from an A1200 (Kickstart 3.0, although anything above 2.0 will show this)

1.3 and below (as I said above) will show the Guru Meditation message

With a software error message too? If not which kickstart version is the one from the errorwear site from? Or is that a modified one?

Well, I have a A-500 with Kick 1.3, and I have seen 3 errormessages:

1) The one with the red, blinking layout, saying 'Guru Medidation'

2) The same one saying 'Recoverable Alert'.

3) A Workbench window poppig up, saying 'Software Failure - Finish all disk activity'.

I hate that last one, because there are two options given when it pops up: 'retry' and 'cancel', but it is completely irrelevant on which one you click:
The Amiga will go to a guru or hang up afterwards in any case.
I wonder who invented this joke message..... ?

I just bumped into this when trying to run Alpha waves with a 1.3 Kickstart under WinUAE. This comes up right after the previously mentioned popup window (3rd option Overdoc mentioned). Here it shows both things?!?

The version of Alpha waves I tried to run was one I just downloaded from PE2000.net

And could someone tell me how to get that game working? I know I got it working before, but now it either guru's on me, or crashes WinUAE for me instead. None of which are going to get me into the game.
