CUBO CD32 is an arcade machine based on CD32. Actually it's a CD32 with some extra hardware to insert coin or whatever. The game runs on a real CD32 or with whdload now.

It's been a while but I remember "Bobble Puzzle" from a cover CD (either AF or CU Amiga) was a pretty good conversion and shows it can easily be done. This game I believe was made in Blitz:

It's on Aminet, with source: https://aminet.net/package/game/misc/bobblep

Wow cool, thanks for that

Shame it's 2 player only though.

Edit: and it only seems to run on AGA, otherwise I get a "Software error" half way through loading.

It definitely does not work on my emulated A500. It stops loading after a certain time and just sits there doing nothing.

So I went ahead and created an .ADF for this game from the Aminet archive:

Now in The Zone! if anyone wants it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Afterwards I thought: hmmm, I didn't check if there's a disk in TOSEC.

...and there was "Bobble Puzzle (1999)(Jesahel, B.)(AGA)(PD)[h BTTR].adf"

Oh well, my disk is nicer

There are some clones on AmiNet which may work on OCS/ECS

Bouncing (AGA)
Bubble Stones
Bubble Stones 2 (AGA)
Burst
Hit Puzzle (rather more Magical Drop clone than Puzzle Bobble, but...)
Net-Bubble (FPU)

I think this answers the OPs question.

Great find. Case closed.

That is pretty cool given the self-imposed limitations.
I've taken the liberty of trying to make the bubbles look a little more rounded and more like the arcade, without using any extra colours. (I've tweaked the palette a little though)

To be honest, Puzzle Bobble doesn't look too bad in just 16 colours

The red-> Orange -> Yellow is hard, as it needs to be vibrant and distinct... at the same time cover the muted sack and pointer arrow. I just get mushy brown and orange too close to red. Especially when black and purple eats up the lower end.

But skipping orange and just keeping red and yellow is a good idea, it really helps keeping them separated graphically when playing.

But you lose bubble colors this way. I think the colors are important for gameplay. Maybe because it is a color game.

I played it earlier. It looks nice, plays OK, but it depends if you like that sort of puzzle. I mean, aiming the arrow and balls at the target is quite hard, and not quite as intuitive as something like Tetris, where you can guide the pieces directly to their target, and there's also that issue where the balls "catch" on projecting balls in the pile that you didn't intend them to, but I can see why people like the game.

Using same method for missing bubbles can use 32 colors easily for all plus parallax layer when needed (will however need some manual tweak)

Yes, but this picture has only 4 different colours for the bobbles.
Following is a "gimp-ed" one with all 8 different colours for the bobbles.
No palette optimization. Only GIMP 2.8 default colour reduction (indexed colours).

1st : reduced to 64 colours :

2nd : reduced to 32 colours

3rd: reduced to 16 colours

32 & 16 colours pictures are quite similar at the end.

I think that something really cool can be made with a good 16 colours palette optimization.
