soundprobe on my pistorm 1200 : slow :(

Hi,

I've got a 1200, pistorm, 3.2 rom and os. I wanted to use soundprobe for my sample editing, and sadly it's slow as hell sound bad, glitches too.

I'm wondering if anyone of you are still using this great sound editing software. I remember back in the days using it with a aura sampler, worked flawlessly on a stock 1200 with just a bit of fast ram.

Now the aura is gone, so I'm using the paula chip instead and a technosound turbo cartridge.

For now I'm using octamed SS for the sampling, it works great but lacks of processing features and fx.

thank you for your help

soundprobe with the pitstorm should run much faster and better
so there is a software bug somewhere, surely in the 3.2 rom and or wb 3.2 which are very buggy,
try it on another installation and install OS 3.9 with a normal 3.0 or 3.1 rom

on the other way you can use instead Soundprobe the windows version which is far better than the Amiga version, last version is still 2.69.2 yet it works very fine on win 11

If it works correctly with faster processors. Which it might not. Try it in WinUAE? (I appreciate that might not be practical?)

I don't think that is a valid assertion. What is your evidence?

THank you both for your answer. Today I'll try it on my 600 (2mb ram, os and rom 3.1). We'll see if it works better.

For now there is a lot of lag and clics when playing the samples on the 1200. Not useable. I'm sure that my config is correct (since I sample and play samples with no problem on the octamed SS).

I'll let you know.

Is soundprobe using the cpu for playback, and octamed dma, by any chance?

I would also try SamplitudeOpus and SoundFX to check if they work the same bad or good.

thank you for your answers,

I'll try the software you're speaking about...once I find them !

edit : need a key for samplitude opus...I will not buy it since I'm not sure it will work.

edit2 : cannot find sound FX. The links on official website are dead.

You'll find both as fullversion on Amiga Future Download page

I'll search, thanks. By the way soundprobe doesn't work on the 600 (needs a 020 proc).

THe amiga future archives doesn't work either. samplitude goes for guru meditation, and sound FX is empty.

So return to the first step. I believe that using a VST "amiga style" sampler plugin will be a way easier...sad.

on winuae soundprobe works very fine even with JIT enabled

and my evidence is that I know by own experience that rom3.2 and wb 3.2 are very buggy
and it is not worth installing that at all, much less spending money on that garbage which does not offer anything new or usable and causes a lot of problems

New tests tonight, I tried all the settings available. It seems that the problem is on playing the sample. No matter the settings I use. Too bad, I still have my licence for this software and liked it very much.

I guess I'll have to find another sound editor...

Not if stx2199 is to be believed. It's your ROM and workbench.

Because you're running PiStorm why not install a new SD card with KS3.1 + WB3.1 to give it a go?

I personally don't believe it. He's offered no evidence but if you're stuck you might as well try. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to try on PiStorm

The good news is that 3.2 is currently supported and the devs appreciate bug reports. Give them a good bug report with some solid examples of reproducible issues and there's a good chance they'll fix what's wrong. That way you're also helping others who might have the same issue.

For what it's worth, Soundprobe works just fine for me on OS 3.2...

do you think that I should update my pistorm ? I'm using an old version (since I didn't have other issues, I didn't make any updates so far).

What Emu68 version are you running ?
Current one is 1.02 from June 2024.
The version number and date is displayed in the lower right corner of the Emu68 splash screen.

Also would like to note that 3.2 is running fine on my PiStorm32, it's as solid as an Amiga gets and everything just works perfectly fine here.

I'm using a pistorm 2023 version... 0.3 something.

SoundFX I found the way to unpack it, but it still doesn't work. I don't know why.

3.2 works fine too here. Except a few software...like soundprobe or samplitude opus.

Sounds like it's definitely time to upgrade. Get a new SD card (they are pennies on Amazon Prime Day) and clone your existing card then upgrade.

THank you,

I just bought a microSD at the supermarket for this purpose. I'll do it during week end. We'll see what happens.
