Wanted: cf 4Gig Hd

I wonder if anybody has a spare CF 4Gig HD that you're not using...
Because I would like to buy it.
What I need is one of these, with Classic LITE installed on it.
You know what I mean... with a Work partition and a System partition, etc.

Actually, I would like to have two of them.
So if you have another one with Classic FULL ,
I will buy that as well.

Hi!

I can sell you two sets as requested, can you confirm you own the Workbench Disks that would be needed to activate Classic Workbench? If so I can do the activation for you but I don't want the EAB copyright police chasing after me

It would be £20 per set plus postage, Large letter post with recorded is £2.40 (includes packing materials)

Drop me a PM if interested, you can see I offer this service at Amibay and have many happy customers:

http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=36321

All parts are brand new and tested before sending of course. The price I've offered you is cheaper then I normally do, this is for two setups, the second is discounted.

All the best,

Steve.

Hi Steve,
I'm glad to see you got my last post...
Just to let you know , I got to work rightaway.
I opened the Amiga and pulled out the 8 meg expansion card, and threw it away (it had a faulty chip on it, and was on it's last legs anyway)
And then I put in the 'Individual board' that I got from Vesalia.
I was a bit nervous at that point , but it slid right in/on with just a little wiggling.
I then tackled the job of sticking in the CF-4G-HD that you sent me.
Actually, to save time I just swapped the new disk for the old one.
Then I put the lid on and fired it up... It worked fine, the first try.
I was a little bit amazed - it was easier than I thought.
So there ye go , I've got the LITE version done.
Played around with it for a while , and everything seems to be working fine - no problems.

Hmmm , I am starting to get some unforseen problems now.
First thing I noticed was my PCMCIA transfer kit thingie isn't working.
I slide it in and out , in and out - it just won't show up on the screen.
After thinking about this for a while , I eventually realized that I had originally installed it on my HardDrive.
And then I pulled out that HD CF card and installed a new one.
Aha! I thought , I guess I will have to install it again.
So I went thru' the proceedure again - and now my 'credit-card' slot is working again...
Then I loaded up SysInfo and took a look at my drives.
I was relieved to note that the first one was back again.... CF0:
That's fine so I move down and have a look at my other drives, and I don't see any mention of 128 megs of ram anywhere (???)
I switch screens to look at BOARDS
And that just shows a blank page that says 'No Autoconfig Boards Found'
I was surprised, coz I was expecting to see my new ACA1220 listed there.
So now I'm thinking Maybe a 'ACA Card' isn't a 'Board'
However , after some more thinking , I went back to my PCMCIA card and looked in there, I easily found ACATune, and clicked on the icon, and got
Card Detected : ACA1220
So that looked encouraging

The only other thing that I can do is to have a look in my Startup-sequence.
According to Steve , the first lime should be
;C:ACATune -maprom * >NIL
and I'm supposed to remove the ; to enable the ACATune.
(I have the 3.0 rom version)

Of course the problem is , that my Startup-sequence has been re-written by AmigaKit, when I re-installed my ADAPCMCFL and EasyADF.
So what I'm supposed to do next, doesn't seem to fit with what I've got now.
So I am stuck .

The ACATune sentence goes always the first, so write it there and delete or leave the ; in the other.

Hi Jim,

You didn't need to install the PCMCIA drivers, they are already part of classic workbench, however CF's don't automatically mount as the CF0 file is kept in 'storage/dosdrivers' and you should either move it to 'devs/dosdrivers' or you can open shell and type:

mount cf0:

As said to enable ACATune you just need to take out the ; from the line I created for you, however if another installer has put their commands above this line you will need to move the ACATune line back up above those commands.

Hello Steve,
It seems like I have a talent for taking a perfectly good set of instructions , and screwing it up .

Well, I have had a look in the 'Devs/DosDrivers' and I see that
the CF0 file is already in there.
I even tried to copy it over from the 'Storage/DosDrivers' and I got
a Warning message flashed at me, saying that CF0: is already mounted.
So I'm going to accept that, and move on.
And as for the Startup-sequence, this is what it looks like now

C:ACATune -maprom * >Nil

; ADDED by ADAPCMCFL-INSTALLER
FAILAT 11
C:CardPatch
run >NIL: C:CardReset TICKS 50

;ClassicWB Startup-Sequence
;---------------------------
;LITE 3.1

and so on, which I assume is okay from there onwards...
I have put the C:ACATune -maprom * >NIL line back up to the beginning
where it's supposed to go.
And I was wondering if I should delete the bits that were added by the ADAPCMCFL-Installer ?

I still don't see anything that indicates that I have 128 megs of RAM
Even though ACATune reports that it can see my ACA1220 is detected.
Of course, maybe I am looking in the wrong place ???
I was running Sysinfo , and expecting to see some mention of it in there...
But No .

Hi Jim.

It's looking good, you just need to add : to the end, line 1 therefore should read like this:

C:ACATune -maprom * >NIL:

Also take note of the case and copy exactly as above

As for Ram, you can see the amount when you look at the bar at the top of your workbench it will read something like:

2,000,000 graphics memory 132,000,000 other memory (the latter is your FastRam on the ACA card, notice it's more then 128,000,000 as 1mb is 1024bytes

Okay Steve,
I have done all that , and I think it's all right now.
(Fingers crossed)

And I had a look at the numbers atop my workbench and it reads

1,960,488 graphics mem , 132,105,112 other mem

So I think I am all right now........ Thanks Jim.

Looks like you're all up and running then! Enjoy

By the way, if you open a shell and type:

acatune -status

You can just verify that Maprom is operational but I'm guessing it's working just fine.

Oh and don't forget what I said about making a backup of the CF card

At the very least you should make a backup of your system partition.

Have fun!

Steve.

Hello Steve,
I haven't been in here for a while and that's because I have been playing around with my #1 computer , trying everything , and getting familiar with it.
It's got Classic Lite running it... and I put in a ACA1220 to give it more memory. And I an quite happy with the way it runs now.

Today I thought I would tackle my #2 computer, and try to soup it up.
I was a bit hesitant getting started, because I was afraid I would probably screw it up. But I grabbed my screwdriver and opened it up...
I put in the new card... a ACA1232 - it went on easier than I thought it would.
Then I removed the old HardDrive (it says Toshiba Disk Drive HDD2216)
and put the Classic FULL cf in it's place.
As I closed the lid and put the screws back in, I realised that it had taken me less than 10 minutes. I plugged it in, and it loaded up perfectly first time... I was amazed.

What striked me most is the speed that everything works now.
You don't click on a drawer, and Wait for it to open , now you click on a drawer and it's open

This time I had no problems with getting my CF0: working.
I remembered what I had to do the last time... so it was much easier this time around.

I notice that the layout is a bit different , I will have to play around with it for a few days and get familiar with this one now.
See what's different , see where everything is...
Right now I'm a happy man .

Nice post . It's great to run for the first time a new OS/Configuration. Next you can try also CWBAdvSpecial: http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/advsp.htm

I like to try/use different OS', programs... more than playing games.
