We will present and review this very cool game in our next livestream on this Saturday (June, 10th) at 20:00 CEST and take a journey back in time to 1993, in which we will take a look at the first part again.

There will also be a detailed longplay at the end of the show. If you are interested and want to watch all levels of the game, you should subscribe to our Twitch channel at this point: https://www.twitch.tv/radio_paralax

The livestream is mainly german. Subtitles should be available later via YouTube after uploading to our channel for recorded shows: https://www.youtube.com/@radioparalax-sendemitschnitte

Arrow CyberPunks 2 Review & Walkthrough

Yesterday evening I reviewed the disk version and recorded a complete walkthrough with the help of a trainer. My special thanks go to Adrian Cummings for providing the final version for this review & longplay.

And I really have to say that it's one of the best Amiga games I've tested lately. What impressed me the most was the gameplay and the successful mix of "Chaos Engine" and "Alien Breed", as well as the 2-player co-op mode. The skilful combination of shooter and collecting passages just puts you in a good mood and the level of difficulty is highly balanced and fair, so that you don't lose the motivation of continue playing. The graphics are mostly very varied and there are nice loading pics after each mission. The soundtrack is fitting and the sound effects very atmospheric. I also like the fact that certain barriers can optionally be passed in some level sections in order to get certain items such as life energy or weapon upgrades, which increases additional motivation and playing time even more. However, there are also a few inconsistencies that could have been improved, e.g. doors that have already been opened are marked accordingly in the level map, so that you don't have to explore certain areas again in vain. Also, as the game progresses, it becomes more and more linear and predictable, especially in the last two missions, where keycards are often located directly behind other access doors and can thus be seen before they are opened.

Here are a few pros and cons:

Per:

- Varied graphics & animations
- Nice scrolling
- Matching soundtrack
- Atmospheric sound effects
- Very fair and motivating gameplay
- Crypto system encourages exploration of undiscovered level sections
- Quite extensive level sections and long playing time
- Bonus rounds to refill credits
- Level map available at any time
- 2 button & CD32 pad support
- Level Codes

Cons:

- Somewhat primitive background graphics in the 3rd mission
- Doors that have already been opened with key cards are not marked in the level map
- Increasingly linear and predictable gameplay due to key cards sometimes being placed too close behind other doors.
- Time bound killer droid makes little sense (should have been better equipped with shelling dependent shield)
- Apparently indestructible tentacles in the 5th mission (despite flashing when fired)
- No saved highscores & progress on disk

My overall rating is 75% after finishing the game, although you can still add 2-3% in 2-player mode.

The complete walkthrough video is available here (german language only, subtitles available):
