Amiga A4000 video slot pinout
I've looked at various video slot pinouts (found using Google) but non of them seem right.
http://www.amigau.com/natamiga/t-videoslot.shtml http://www.titan.co.nz/Amigaak/AA060153.htm http://www.l8r.net/technical/t-videoslot.shtml All of them seem to be missing 4 signals: Red bit 0 Red bit 7 Green bit 7 Blue bit 7 Does anyone have an official pinout or daughter card schematic that I could rely on? Looking at the A4000 schematics page 9b, all 24-bits of digital RGB are available on the A4000 motherboard daughter card slot so why would there be missing signals on the video slot on the daughter card itself? Anyone? |

http://www.hardwarebook.info/Amiga_Video_Expansion shows the missing signals, but as to whether it's right...

Interesting. It matches up with the standard connector pinout found on all the other sites but with extra signals on "Reserved" pins.
The odd one out seems to be the "extended video slot" pinout on the original websites. Anyone know what this is? Last edited by alexh; 28 October 2008 at 12:00. |

I think the standard part is the video slot as found on the original German A2000, with the extended slot being Dave Haynie's addition when the system was redesigned by Commodore US.

That does not make sense as the two pinouts (Extended and Standard) are not pin compatible in any way. Unless I am missing something?
If the extended slot is the one found in B2000, A3000 and A4000 then I am even more lost as it means THIS pinout you gave me is not valid ![]() The B2000 and A3000 video slot should be missing the lower three bits/pins (0, 1, 2) on digital Red, Green and Blue (or more likely the schematics say it is missing 5, 6, 7 when it is actually missing 0, 1 & 2) because OCS/ECS is only 12-bit where A4000 is 24-bit Last edited by alexh; 28 October 2008 at 12:37. |

I've found the missing bit of information.
It would appear that 'Extended video slot' is in addition to 'Standard video slot' not instead of. A4000 having a standard, extended and and the extra 37-54 I'd now like to know what type of connectors and how many contacts the B2000, A3000 and A4000 video slots have and how they are compatible. More research required. |

If you want, I can scan the 3 manual pages (2, 3 & 4k). Shame the 2000 schematic is a miniature, but I have the manual in crisp mint-condition (not for sale!).

Ok, gimme an hour. [EDIT] No need to, just a fast read on the A4000 Manual and problem solved! See for yourself! ![]() Last edited by rkauer; 28 October 2008 at 13:51. |

Connectors are standard card edge, same pitch as ISA/Zorro, on the 2/3k it's 2 banks of 36 pins placed end-to-end, and on the A4000 it's one of 36 and one of 54.
I know from experience that you can use an A2000 flicker fixer in an A4000 without problems, and A4000 cards can be used in an A2000/3000 provided they have a notch cut out at pins 37-40 (Like the PIV flicker fixer, but I remember seeing instructions for cutting the notch on the CV64 3D FF too). So presumably in an A2000/3000 bits 4-7 are actually bits 0-3. |

You would imagine that (on the equivalent documentation for the B2000/A3000 video slot) the pins described here as "<colour> bit 7 (6, 5, 4)" would be named "<colour> bit 3 (2, 1, 0)" Actually the more you look at it... I'd still like to see the corresponding B2000/A3000 manuals to be sure. You got them rkauer? |

isn't it possible to check continuity with denise pins to be absolutely sure ? do they pass somewhere else ?

Lisa on AGA not denise. Unfortunately I do not own A3000 or B2000, plus if rkauer has equivalent documentation for B2000/A3000 I'd be ready to trust it.

Ta very much. The information is very much as I thought. You can see the digital RGB bit 3 (aka bit 7) being wired to the standard video slot.
