Breach 2 data disk

When updating the Breach 2 game for TOSEC, I did an indepth search of my collection.
I found that data disks were made available on Amiga in 1991 on BBS.
There is no evidence that this was the case commercially, the data may have been transferred from another platform...
I found these disks:
Breach 2 - Federation Collection #1 - The Azarius Incident (1989-10-05)(Modern Day Publishing)(US)[data disk]
Breach 2 - Federation Collection #3 - Testimony of Courage (1989-12-30)(Modern Day Publishing)(US)[data disk]
Breach 2 - Federation Collection #4 - Death Before Dishonor (1990-01-02)(Modern Day Publishing)(US)[data disk]
Breach 2 - Federation Collection #5 - Winds of Steel (1990-02-10)(Modern Day Publishing)(US)[data disk]
Breach 2 - Federation Collection #6 - Cry of War (1990-09-25)(Modern Day Publishing)(US)[data disk]

and "Breach 2 - Campaign Disk 1" in a compilation of Oracle.

Hmm, not sure what to do here. Maybe add it as a note? Didn't check it yet, but any info about that publisher 'Modern Day Publishing'?

Hi TCD,
I don't have a lot of information about them but here is some info:
https://www.cgwmuseum.org/galleries/issues/cgw_70.pdf
page 34-36

and you will find in attachment, a rather detailed text document for each scenario disk
Attached Files
File Type: zip Breach2_AddonInfo.zip (82.5 KB, 53 views)

Thank you for the info The problem is that there is an editor included with the game, so I have no idea how 'official' these scenario disks are. I'll have a look over the weekend if I can find out more (or maybe someone else knows more about those disks).

Edit: I found this thread https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=101921 So maybe the 'Breach 2 - Campaign Disk 1' is that disk?

Is this disk available anywhere? I tried searching Turran ftp but couldn't see anything related.

I also assume that Federation Mission disk #2 is MIA on Amiga?

I think these disks were almost certainly official/commercial/licensed products and as such deserve mention in HoL.

I've added a note to the Breach 2 entry for now. Would be great if we could find an order form or advert that shows that those disks were available for the Amiga version

Ok, thank you. I read a bit more about that and it seems Modern Day Publishing was a mail order operation which specialized in making various scenarios for Omnitrend games, available via their newsletter (?) called VidComm (you can read the intros to the scenarios for more insight).

I also wonder whether TOSEC release dates are more correct than HoL: Breach 2 v1.0 -1989 and v2.0 in 1990. That seems to be the case for at least PC and ST.

EDIT: CGW #66 (Dec 1989) has an ad for Breach 2 saying "available now for PC, ST & Amiga". Also mentions "additional scenario disks available now" which could mean the MDP stuff (I think the two first ones are from 1989).

I've changed the release year, but it's quite odd that all the reviews are from around September 1990. The Amiga version of games was quite often released about a year after the ST version and the V1.0 in TOSEC could be a leaked early version that was never commercially released.

As I've said any kind of proof that the data disks were actually available also for the Amiga would be welcome.

It could be that it was released late 1989 in US by Omnitrend, and 1990 in Europe by Impressions (that seems to be the case with the ST version).

As with all similar retro-sleuthing it's just speculation on my side. But I'd lean towards 1989 myself.

As for the MDP data disks I don't see why shouldn't they be available for Amiga, since a small (?) mail order publisher would welcome any sales. And I think adapting them for Amiga was trivial - they certainly seem to work ok now. But, again, it's just me and my crystal ball .... some concrete proofs would be nice. However searching for generic terms like "breach" "data disk" or "modern day publishing" throws up a lot of guff.

In general I switched from a 'it seems likely' to a 'I need proof' stance on adding new entries to HOL There are still a good amount of entries that are 'Unknown / Unreleased' because there was an article or an advert mentioning the Amiga version, but it was never made/released.

Sure, I understand. The note is a good compromise, at least people will know that these data disks exist. I'm a great fan of Omnitrend games, hence the digging. Would love to see the Campaign 1 from Omnitrend and #2 Federation Missions disks surface one day too.

I 'extracted' the WRP using WinUAE and X-Copy. It's untested and in the zone.

Thank you. It seems to work fine (I played a random scenario for a minute) and the scenario list seems to match the corresponding one on Atarimania's Campaign 1 disk.
