wanting to experiment, using Amiga (emulator) as my day to day machine, need advice
Morning guys, as an experiment wanting to see how Amiga stands up to my every day computer needs by doing it in an emulator. I bought Amiga forever in 2000 so I own the roms, I sold my A1200T PPC in 2000 after using Amiga/Workbench/OS3.1 for many years.
Can anyone recommend the best way to get workbench/amiga os running in an emulator? (Winuae? Morphos? Aros?) Can you recommend any add ons for it make it look better than stock? What's the current best browser? Mail client? Photo editing? Is there anything for editing video? Best video player? Do I need anything to view pdf, jpg, png etc? What's best for docx files (viewing and editing) Any help appreciated with this |

I'd give AROS a try: http://vmwaros.blogspot.de/2009/12/i...-complete.html

http://guide.abime.net/wbdist.htm EDIT: Thus required/needed Workbench 3 adf files for most Preconfigured Workbench Distributions you should already have inside of your Amiga Forever package. NOTE: A newer versions of Amiga Forever already has an AmiKit and AmigaSYS Integration ... http://www.amigaforever.com/screensh...ikit-amigasys/ Last edited by amilo3438; 27 July 2013 at 14:40. |

Viewing .docx files and video editing is basically out of question with WB 3.x though.
@Arnie The bootable CD is good for a quick look without much hassle |

Hmm.
While I don't want to discourage you from trying this stuff out, I do politely suggest a reality check "Classic" Amiga software support for anything is mostly stuck in the year 2000 or so, and for big commercial type software (word processors, photo editing etc.) it's about 1995. Some more modern stuff has been ported over from the Linux world which may get you a bit further. Still, keep your expectations realistic (low) |

When HTML5 replaces Flash, maybe replacing your PC with an Amiga will be possible. Until then it is nothing but wishful thinking.

A great pre-configured workbench:
http://eab.abime.net/amiga-scene/621...-winuae-3.html Also, newer versions of WinUAE have the ability to run borderless, fullscreen windowed mode. Using this feature, and a program on Aminet called Winlaunch, you can have native window apps launched from the Amiga side for the few things where the Amiga lacks. http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/winlaunch Amikit had some use for winlaunch in some of their newer distros. Having it launch Google Chrome or some document conversion software could be useful. |

Try this :
EDIT : Do a google search including word the pirate bay Amiga Os 68k Natami :-) This is the best speed I was able to get out of preconfigured Winuae Workbench and it has Internet and DivX ability already made ... Last edited by blizz1220; 09 August 2013 at 12:36. |

Cheers guys, will be setting all this up this weekend, thanks for all the advice.
Is iBrowse still the best browser? Not much use without an actual Amiga, but I still have that boxed up here! |

It should be possible. But it is not wanted. Unfortunately development doesn't stop and tries to force people to update their hard- and software constantly.
Many important websites will always make sure that their HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. -code is written as badly and as bloated as possible, while using always the latest features (even if not needed at all), which only the last few Firefox (or Chrome, etc.) versions provide. |
