The Games: Summer Edition Wrong Year of the first release?
Hi there,
as per the title I have a doubt about the year of the first release of The Games: Summer Edition. HOL says 1989 but I've found 1988 on many websites, also on Lemon Amiga. Considering that the game was made for the Olympics Games of Seul 1988 I think it is most probable that it was released in 1988 but I'm not sure. Could someone check on their original version (I've just bought one but I haven't received it yet...)? Thanks! |

Have a look at the reviews. All from 1989 or later for the Amiga version.

You're right, I didn't notice that. So it seems that it was released in 1988 for other platforms and in 1989 for Amiga... that's a bit strange in my opinion but that's it.

You'd be surprised how many Amiga games were delayed compared to other systems.

I can understand a delay for a "standard game"... in this case it is a bit "weird" considering that the game is about an International competition... it is like an "Italy 1990" game about World Cup was released in 1991.
However, even if the game was licensed and officially endorsed by the U.S. Olympic Committee for the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul (as stated in the notes on HOL) they didn't write "Seoul 1998" in the title and, in fact, they sold this game for the next Olympics games as well. Maybe they already thought that this way they would have had the chance to sell the game for a longer period... |

Was quite common to get ports of older 8-bit titles, as long as they weren’t branded as a certain Olympic event there wasn’t an issue.
Heck even Summer Games an 1984 game made for the 1984 Olympics was ported and released in 1992 to coincide with the 1992 Olympics! |
