Not proper A4000 quickstart configuration for Cloanto kickstart 3.X?
Hello All,
During last testing with other problem I found something strange and I would like to confirm it or anyone can explain to me why(?). So there are two situations: 1. I select Quickstart for A4000@030 and making some common changes like: - KS ROM v3.X (A4000)(Cloanto) rev 45.57 (512k) - 8MB RTG memory - 16MB Motherboard RAM (Low area) - adding HardFile as IDE0 (file is with RDB mode) and save (Default-A4000) and then Start ... and here surprise... Hard File won't boot 2. I select Quickstart for A1200 and making some common changes like: - 030 CPU - 68882 FPU - CPU idle to max (to left side) - JIT on - Chipset Extra to A4000 - Sound Emulated - KS ROM v3.X (A4000)(Cloanto) rev 45.57 (512k) - removed 4 MB Fast ram (from memory settings) - 8MB RTG memory - 16MB Motherboard RAM (Low area) - set Floppy Drive Emulation Speed to Turbo - adding HardFile as IDE0 (file is with RDB mode) and save (Default-A1200) and then Start ... and works!! Two configurations looks the same (hardware part) and A1200 changed to A4000 boots but A4000 not. Both are set to A4000, only difference is Quickstart mode used on beginning. Testes witch 1.5.0 and 1.5.3 beta 7. Any one of You mate have any ideas why? Logs, test configs attached. Thom Last edited by Thom87; 04 November 2008 at 11:59. |

Recheck your logs. Both use A1200 KS ROM.
(btw, never use old betas. Either latest beta or latest official) |

Your A4000 configuration is set to "Generic" Amiga model for some reason. (and I can't duplicate this)
("Generic" = weird Amiga configuration that is compatible with all KS versions, instead of freezing if IDE hardware and driver won't match) |

Yes, have a look.
I have question with born flew minutes ago: is it any difference between rdb filedisk created on "generic", "a1200" and "a4000" ide controller? I mean in boot sector or partition table or maybe anything else? I asking because I create new hardfile now and this one is booting with no problems. Hi Toni,
Here is attached a copy of formated (empty) RDB Hardfile with problem occurs. You can check You self. Unpacked file size is about 1,6GB. Current configuration file is attached to. Thomas Last edited by Thom87; 09 November 2008 at 11:56. |

Your A1200 config uses "uae" controller, not IDE
Anyway, this seems to be issue with Cloanto's "3.x" ROM, it does not do any IDE register accesses at all. Either scsi.device decides there is no A4000-style IDE or it is broken. (which is possible because I think this ROM was created before IDE emulation was implemented or stable) Any other A4000 ROM seems to work fine. EDIT: Obviously it does not work because this ROM does not have scsi.device Last edited by Toni Wilen; 05 November 2008 at 16:57. |

Not really, directory harddrives are easy to setup (there is no setup) and can be easily accessed from host side. Hardfiles, especially with IDE/SCSI setup, are usually only needed when building OS setup for real Amigas (for example CF card or real harddisk)
