Nothing new ? There seemed to be a lot of people engaged in this discussion. Does the author of the video by any chance have any updates?

This was an one-off demo experiment and it is probably unlikely it will become a full game at any point. As Dennis explains in the video's description:

"Disclaimer, this is a curious graphics engine demo that might not be developed into a fully featured game, unless Capcom is willing to sanction the license for us. Rather this episode explores the possibilities of the Amiga hardware, and perhaps spark an interest in how to make an IMPOSSIBLE arcade port like Street Fighter II, possible... "

TL;DR - There's been an enormous response from the Amiga community so they're interested in pursuing, but they don't have time (family + other projects). They can probably commit to graphics + Amiga code, but reverse engineering the SF2 arcade game is where they can't commit so if anyone can help them, reach out. They want to make it as arcade perfect as possible.

If no-one can help, then it's likely this is just going to remain a tech demo.

There is the x68000 port as option too to extract the AI, since is supposedly based on the arcade code

yes, the X68000 versions program has been assembled with the arcade CPS1 source code with a bit of modifications.

This thread is the best. We need a version of Streetfighter 2 that's better than the arcade. I'm not sure if this can be done on AGA or something like an X5000 or Vampire V4 version work be required. A version of Killer Instinct and Virtual Fighter would be awesome too.

On the topic of Virtual Fighter odds have been examined last year:

Could an Amiga with an 030 do Virtua Fighter?

I really don't get the need to "prove" that Amiga can do a perfect SF2 arcade port at all cost. Why not just make a new, original game based on this tech, without requiring Capcom's say-so? It would be a huge achievement, also proving the point, and much more interesting to boot (at least from my point of view).

But why do we need better Street Fighter II port, when we ALREADY have much better port than the one done for IBM PC compatibles?
[ Show youtube player ]

The port for IBM PC is a joke and I can't believe it was sold to unsuspecting players who judged by the screenshots in magazines by the time that it is arcade perfect conversion.

This port just proves that graphics is not everything and the gameplay is more important even than the FPS.

Because, you can't justify shitty port, pointing on another shitty port.
We could also say that Final Fight on the Amiga is waaay better then Final Fight on Commodore 64.
Does it makes it good port?

Yeah, it maybe did matter back then, but we're now nearly 30 years in the future. Anybdody can play the best versions of SF2 (and many other games) in multiple different ways, it doesn't have to be on Amiga.

Of course if you have to challenge yourself with friends at SF2 you use the mame or similar, you don't turn on the Amiga or the SNES, but the point is to show even if 30 years later, how good the Amiga hardware was even in games like SF2 and that with a good development team you could do a LOT better than the existing conversion. Every recent port or remake follows the same philosophy, it is done to show that it could be done.

I get that, but for me there is line somewhere where it'd perhaps better just to let go, and do something original. This is one of these cases, seeing as you have the spectre of Capcom looming large, even aside from the technical difficulties.

Amiga fans already know that it could do better. And others don't really care.

Thats quite a defeatest attitude, the challenge is always to maximize hardware usage compared to the junk we bought back in the day. I would much prefer to play a game that near maximizes the hardware to realise a game than the mame equivalent. Theres so much processing capability available nowadays that theres no challenge for the old arcade games but playing good versions on Amiga hardware is sublime.
