Blizkick, Blizzard 68030 MKIV

I have rom 3.0 and have kicked rom 3.1 and tried all kind of options like SpeedyIDE, RomFixes etc. To me it does not seam to do anything. SpeedyIDE gave me no more speed in Sysinfo. It was exactly the same. 2.1xxx MB/s. CPU speed is also exactly the same.

My syntax for the Blizzard 1230IV:

Quote:
; BlizKick for Blizzard 1230
C:BlizKick DEVS:Rom40068.A1200.patched EXTRESBUF=136000 MODULE bootmenu console.device FusionReserve FileSystem.resource FastFileSystem exec.library Ram-Handler LocalFast scsi.device SpeedyIDE Shell-Seg romupdate.idtag QUIET
SpeedyIDE has to be in the end.
Anyway CPU and IDE speed of the Amiga 1200 are those: max 10mips for the Blizzard and 2 / 2,5MB/s for the standard IDE controller.

If you want better performance you have to buy a 68060 solution.

When you Kick the WB ROM into Fast Ram, it does speed up Intuition massively. It takes any wait states the System might have to wait for, such as Motherboard, CPU & hard drive etc clean out of the equation. If you're using an 020, 030, 040 or even 060, Kicking a ROM into Fast Ram is not going to make your CPU any Faster. You will need to run the CPU at a faster Mhz to achieve this or use a faster processor card as DannyPPC points out above.

As an Example & arguably, an 030 @ 50Mhz should give you slightly faster IDE Speeds than an 030 @ 25Mhz, but until you hit the physical limitations of the IDE controller, drive speeds will depend on the type/make of IDE device in place. - This is why Old School Amiga Nut's like me prefer SCSI. Drive Access loads are taken away from the CPU & loaded onto the SCSI chip, making your Amiga that little bit slicker some more.

To be quite frank, if you're not a Big Workbench User spending hours at a time in the WB environment, you probably won't be able to appreciate what kicking ROM into Fast Ram is really all about.

Probably one of the slickest things I have ever experienced with an Amiga was having the pleasure of owning a Warp Engine 040 card, amidst several PPC cards all with 060's at the time. That card was phenomenally fast around the Workbench Environment & after Kicking Rom into Fast Ram, it was insanely Faaast. - Also remember, you loose 512K (half a meg) of Fast Ram for doing this. If you have no Fast Ram, you won't be able to soft kick anyway afaik.
