Amiga 600 and 1200 edge connectors?

Hello, has anyone found anywhere that sells the A600 and secondly the A1200 edge connectors? I have some projects I want to test. I know I could use a pci slot for the A600 but it won't mount very easily to a pcb.

Thanks!

PJ

Yes I would like to find some suitable connectors for A600 trapdoor other than chopped up PCI slots too. I've had a hunt through Mouser, Farnell and RS catalogues and couldn't find anything to match.

I believe Jens has them specially made or makes them, (don't know the exact arrangement). But he has previously said that they are not for sale on any terms other than some possible deal where you pay a share of the, presumably quite large, set up costs he has paid to recreate the correct connectors.

I haven't looked yet but I wonder if there exist PCI slots with right angled PCB pins? If you look at a picture of individual computers A602 memory card, you can see that at that time Jens didn't use SMT or right angled connectors for A600. He used a PCB mounted at a right angle. Only so much room for a PCB in this orientation though.

Think I found some at digikey, they have a huge range of edge connectors. I think this one is the right sizes and about the cheapest, right angle through hole ones are more costly.

You could still solder that at a right angle. Is the pitch correct?

Pretty sure it is the right pitch, 1.27mm, same as PCI. The dimension for the length of inserted card is correct ~52mm. Not sure abut board thickness. I was hoping you might confirm I hadn't screwed up.

I don't think you could mount that one at right angles. It is meant to have one row of surface contacts on each side of the board. I don't think the rows are staggered.

You could desolder one off a none working card. There are many ways to do this depending on user(s) soldering skills. It will be interesting how user(s) will tackle this task without damaging the connector.

For the A600 it may just be easier to go pci and block off part of the connector.

I can probably get them made, it will prob need a minimum of 100. If there's interest i can get something sorted. Not just yet, too much to do already,

I think the A1200 connectors would be worth getting done, the 600s could be bodged, unless you want to sell a line of cheap 1mb chip ram upgrades.

I'd be looking at after the summer as I'm going to be playing with some fpga hardware as well as the GBAs.

Does anyone think these are not the correct type?

http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...3390-ND/927342

This is a slightly different one from my previous links. Same surface contacts which straddle the board edge but with a little notch in the case to help locate the board.

I'm gonna order some shortly unless the postage is really overboard. I could order extras for anyone this side of the pond who wants.

The pitch needs to be 0.100". these are too narrow. I may be able to get them made for all Amigas providing the interest is there

That can't be right. Pitch is distance between contact centres, no?
If so, 40 contacts each side * 1.27mm, (0.05")=50.8mm.

Add a little bit each end.
A600 memory expansion slot measures~52mm
Width of slot in linked item=52.07mm

apologies, you're right, it is the A500 port that is 0.1" pitch

Here is a picture i submitted to a vendor to get these made for a card for the A1200, still waiting for a reply so hopefully i will have these available for a project that could be starting. Fingers crossed

Here is link to supersize

edit, you can probably see the burnt track on the right side, there was a fair bit of damage due to capacitor corrosion, after a clean up and jumper wires the board works fine

Another thing to note is the thickness of the plastic around the connector you get made..
I know with the ACAs, they are thick enough that I had to loosen my motherboard from the case to be able to slide it into place (and then was able to tighten the motherboard back down). Similar issue with the shielding hitting the top of the connector (for those that have shielding still.. ;-).

Jens Schoenfeld said that a customer of his had already paid for the tooling for A1200 edge connectors (that has got to be going back 10 years) and we know he makes them for his ACA products. We know he also makes A600 edge connectors for the A600 RAM expansions he sells. He would be your best bet.

Adam-tech in the UK sells CD32 edge connectors but there is an MOQ.

Hi Alexh,

I sent Jens an email last year and didn't get a reply so i am assuming he isn't offering them.

MOQ? minimum order quantity?

Ok I investigated this little and I must say that I need those A1200 connectors because I could create something with them. Only thing that stopping me to my next project is those damn connectors for A1200 and it seems that I will never find them.
