A500 kickstart 2.04 to 3.1

Just thought about this one.

When I upgraded my A500 (Rev 5) to kickstart 2.04 back in the day it came with a wire bridging pins 1 and 31 iirc. I guess I must have ordered it like this since I don't recall soldering that myself.

On the 3.1 it seems I need to do a double bridge from pin 1 to 31 and then 31 to 21 with the 31 pin bent out from the socket. Just want to make sure that's correct?

If I should get a kickstart swith, what needs to be done in this regard to the kickstarts?

Sounds correct. However, the requirements for 2.04 and 3.1 are equal, so you should check the socket if it has the bridge between 1 and 31 already. Then you only need to bridge 21 and 31 on the ROM chip and bend 31 up.

This depends on the specific switch. I think most switches have the changes integrated. At least the one I had did not need any soldering or bending.

I'm quite sure there's no bridge on the socket, it's a rev 5 that came with kickstart 1.2 when I bought it 1988, but I'll have a look.

I'll see what I get then.

You should read this thread:

As a reference, here are the original installation instructions for a 2.04 kickstart.

I saw that one. My old 2.04 have never given me any issues and it only has the wire from pin 1 to 31, no resistors. It's a proper kickstart that I got back in 91 I think.

The new 3.1 I bought from Amigakit. Nothing in the installation instructions about resistors so I figured they aren't needed. I suppose it's an eprom but a correctly done one?
