Amgia 1200 Disk Drive service/cleaning video :o)
Hi all, subsequent to my last video where I picked up the Amiga 500+ and nearly 500 disks, with the 500+ being dead (for now), I decided to clean up the drive of the A1200 and have made a video on YouTube of how I do that. Please watch and let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions about what I do or how to do it better )
Video: [ Show youtube player ] Best regards Steve |

hi nice video there, did you try greasing the worm drive for the read/write head?
the screaching is probably the disks and not the drive by the way,ive seen this a few times.you will probably find out if they work in another system,(and see if it sqeals in that drive). regards roy |

I was always led to believe that using cotton buds to clean drive heads was dangerous as they can leave fibres in the heads therefore irrevocably damaging them. The correct tool for the job is a chamois cleaning pad.
Here's a link to a farnell supplied tool which is sadly no longer manufactured but you get the idea. http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-power/cha...s/dp/SACHAMOIS and here's a farnell product that is still supplied http://cpc.farnell.com/chemtronics/6...-50/dp/SA00455 Paul |

I've seen a few people destroy their 5 1/4" drive heads with cotton buds and for me, it's just not worth the risk. Paul |

As I used to work in the trade, cutton buds were the no.1 tool from cleaning all types of heads except Video heads. |

ive used cotton buds/q tips for years and never had a problem,as fol rightly says pushing to hard on read/write heads with anything let alone cotton buds completly destroys heads in disk drives.i personaly use alcohol on them(as a last resort).
