A 500+ won't boot

Hi,

I'm new here and the first thing i have in mind is a question.

Last week i recoverd my 500+ and I was very happy about it. After connecting it to my tv I got hit, as it won't boot. I just got a black sceen and the Power and Drive LEDs are on all the the time. If I put a disk in the floppy drive it runs all the time too. I opend the 500+ and it was covered in this green dust (Picture).

I got the 500+ years back and played some games with it, and thats all. I don't know anything about the Harware or what could be broken.

Did someone can help me here?

I remember that A500+ have battery which sometimes can leak.

Yup, by the looks of things that battery has leaked. Remove it and clean up the motherboard best you can.

Hi HRMeinert, and welcome to EAB.

Yes, the battery has leaked and that green stuff isn't dust, it's corrosion.

Get that battery out of there as soon as you can and clean the deposit from the motherboard with a stiff brush made by cutting short the bristles on a 12mm paint brush and either isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirit.

The battery looks like a standard 3.6V lithium battery which was commonly fitted to many older motherboards before button cells became popular, and they should still be available to buy.

Don't forget to make a note of the polarity of the battery before you remove it.

Just to round it up. I have to:

1.) desoldering the battery
2.) buy a new battery
3.) remove the corrosion
4.) resoldering the new battery

thats it?

There is no need to buy new battery (at least not until it boots properly), Amiga will work without it.

Don't forget to clean the green corrosion off. If it still does not work post back to us.

The corrosion looks very seriously, I am afraid it could damage the board so it could be very difficult to repair. See where it spreaded - up to the resistors near CIA and down to the expansion port. Also capacitors could be after their life time. Desolder (or simply cut) the battery immediatelly, clean the board and impacted circuit elements with brush and alcohol, visually check if those wire-ways on the board remained uninterupted and try to turn the board on. If it won't help, I am afraid only the skilled person can try do rescue this mobo.

BTW -the battery is only needed for realtime clock, so don't put it there back, if the mobo works.

It will be probably needed the Gary and RAM socket, if the board won't work.

Take your time with this, and take great care not to cause any further damage. You have everything to gain, but nothing to lose, because it's not working at the moment anyway.

Sadly I don't took my time. I did it with a bit of hurry and hurt.. garry i think. I tryed to remove it from the socket and pulled some of the socketconnertors out with garry. It's hard to see in the picture but i got 4 in my hands

Unfortunatly i removed the battery and there's some damage on the board.

Some needs some a500+ parts?

I dont think it is so serious to bin the board. Under the battery there is nothing important imho. And Gary adapter will nedd to be replaced (I'd expect the same with RAM socket)

Hm, you guys realy think it's repairable?

So I should desolder the Gary-Adapter and change it to a new one? Which part is the ram-adapter?
