A600 Power Cycle Software Failure

I notice that when I turn off the A600 and turn it back on again I receive a guru. Clicking through it results in normal behaviour. I need to wait some minutes before turning it on again for the guru not to occur. It is as if something needs time to be flushed.

This happens on amiga 600s I try. A warm reset is fine.

I wonder if this is a common thing?

It is. If you only wait a few seconds between turning off and on, you can get a Guru. That happens with the A500 and A1200, too. I assume "I need to wait some minutes" is exaggerated. It should not happen if you wait e.g. 30 seconds. May also depend on the condition of the caps and how long they can keep the memory powered.

Ok, just tested with both A600 I have, one stock machine, only 1MB Chip in Trapdoor and one with Furia, SD Card, 1MB Chip and RGB2HDMI and I NEVER get a Guru, even if the Powercycle is less than three seconds ...

On my Amigas it was about ten seconds to clear memory.

Could this be an issue with RAM - dry joint? Is there any specific guru msg as that narrows down the fault usually?

It's not something I've ever seen personally on A500s, 600s or 1200s. But I guess it's possible in theory that there is some garbage in memory that isn't completely flushed and is somehow interpreted as valid resident content as the machine boots.

I wonder though if it's perhaps an issue with the reset circuit? Normally that should hold the reset signal for a second or so at boot and then release it cleanly so that all the chips reset together. If it doesn't do it cleanly, various chips can be in undefined states, resulting in a crash. I've seen this issue in the past, though it happened regardless of how long it was turned off prior.

Has it been recapped if not I would start there first as the A600 is notorious for leaking caps and as Daedalus says the RESET circuit on the A600 is another failure point
