Black Screen on A500+ with Keyboard attached

Hi All,

just looking for help fixing my A500+ 'Rock Lobster'.

After being left for a while in the cupboard, I decided to give it a spin, but to my dismay it would not boot (black screen).

I eventually worked out that it boots fine with the keyboard detached. I searched the net and found that changing the Keyboard PCB should solve the problem.

Received a replacement from Airey36 on Fleabay, but this made no difference. It must be some component on the main board.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this??

Cheers!

It's ok peeps, I've tracked down the problem.

Checked the voltage 'under load' of the PSU and it's kicking out 6.2v. Swapped the PSU from my A1200 and it works fine :-)

Is there any way of repairing the faulty PSU from my A500?
It is the old 'heavy' type:
input 240V ~50 Hz 60W
output +5V 4.3A +12 1A

RetroGameModz on youtube has a video about repairing a A500 PSU, perhaps give that a watch.

Thanks for that, interesting video.
Unfortunately mine is the older type PSU. I'll search around to see if there is a video on that one.

Glad my A500+ is OK though! That over voltage could have killed it...

It should be possible to gut it and replace the insides with an industrial module such as the Meanwell offerings. That'll give you a modern, efficient PSU well capable of powering your Amiga.

Thanks for this!
I have just ordered a Mean Well RT-50B which I understand fits nicely in the old case.
