A500+ problems (Black Screen)

My luck with e-bay grows every day.

I received today a A500+, the battery was busted, so i took it out.
Tried the AMiGA, and it remains in a black screen... I can see the Gary Chip with a blueish thing on the connectors can it be it?

I looked like the greenish thingy that affects some hardware due to poor storage. Btw i've cleaned it up with alcohol... the problem persists...

Oh, so the pins have oxidised?

Then the gary is probably not the only culprit here..

You can try to pull up and then press down on all the socketed chips, perhaps it's just a bad contact somewhere.

Also see if some chip gets burning hot to the touch only moments after powerup.

That thing might oxydise inside of the chips if you didn't act in time. If this happens you need to replace the chip. Two of my 500+s worked after cleaning, one didn't.

Sure. Remember, stock amigas except 500+ don't have on board clocks or batteries!

edit: I don't know/remember about big box amigas

The A1000, original A500, A600, A1200 don't have onboard batteries, the rest do.

I've cleaned all the chips with alcohol and socketed them all again. Still... black screen, power led on... no signal from the drive.

Er... can't get to the Gary chip from my A500, it seems that it oxydised? within the socket... either way, i can't get it out.

Can it be something else besides the possibility of a faulty chip?

Do you have a lot of experience in swapping chips?

Are you sure you inserted your chip prying tool (screwdriver :-) between the chip and the socket?

If you're not careful, you might insert it under the socket, and that won't come out intact without a soldering iron. :-)
