Best Football Game Ever on any Platform
I have hurt my back doing some DIY so I have to rest for a few days... as you can imagine I didn't need much encouragement to rest...
I thought I would sort out my game disks/CD's/carts etc (light work you understand) and I am only now realising just how many Football games I have. Now for me Sensible Soccer will always be king on the Amiga but of course there are other Football games that are still just as great. I love World Cup Italia 90 on the Megadrive and also the PES and FIFA games on the latest consoles. I have a Football game called GO Go Goal on the Sega Saturn which is really a lot of fun as well and I remember that there were loads of other Japanese Football games in the arcades as well. So, the question - (and I am sure it has been asked many times... but) what is your favourite Football game on any platform and why? |

Goal? Ugh you have to be joking? Seriously?
Kick Off 2 SWoS There are none better. Out of the two I'd say SWoS wins it purely based on the fact that there are full teams with proper names and I still play it now. I'd say, for two player, I'd probably just about prefer Kick Off 2. M. |

This is NOT a game. FAIL!!!!! ;D
Yes I do. For me the best football game ever made which I still enjoy! I loved KO 2 and Sensible Soccer too but when Goal! was released I never looked back! =) |

SWOS4EVA...
For me... the Sensi series is king, with SWOS being the ultimate - excellent playability, easy to pick up, hard to master, have a 20 year career as player/manager, and the sheer number of teams...still blows me away. In fact, I remember first starting SWOS, and finding a little local team in New Zealand near where I live was included! (granted, the name was spelt wrong, and the team no longer exits, but respect for the effort!) Obviously, the Amiga version was my preffered system, but I liked the PC versions too. A close second for me is Goal! and the KO series. On other platforms, I've played one of the early ISS games on PC which was pretty good, some of the FIFA games on MegaDrive, and Total Football on the MegaDrive was pretty decent, (had it on Amiga too)... I've also liked some of the PES series, on Xbox and PS2...but SWOS still beats them all! |

I have been playing Virtua Striker 2 (ver 200.1) on the Dreamcast - it is a real arcade type of Football game and is incredibly frustrating at times but for sheer fun it is a real blast - two player I imagine would be great as you can score some pretty decent goals!

Goal! is a good game, but the auto-scoring kinda ruins the sense of achievement, and the whole game feels more automatic than SWOS or KO2. Also, it's not fullscreen, which it ought to be.
For me, SWOS is best because of the extreme amount of features, players, teams and competitions. No other game has ever come close when it comes to providing the complete experience. Kick Off 2 gets the award for the most challenging and flexible game, gameplay and physics whise. SWOS is a lot more predictable and accessable. PES5 gets the prize for the best simulation of a real football match though. Deep, fast, fun and rewarding as hell. |

Kick Off 2 on the Amiga, no contest!
For the new 3D thingies (which I do not understand too much ) it's Winning Eleven 4 on the PS1, Japanese version, unforgettable the "Shooooto Miss" shout! |

PES any version, but the best are 5 (tough refs) and 6 ( feels slow as mollases when you come from PES 4 or 5, but feels just right if you don't)
BTW I hate FIFA. I stopped at Fifa 08. Everything is scripted, the cpu always scores a rebound off the goalie it, the game just seems to play the same over and over As for sensi, well here's the thing: I can't play it on joysticks anymore, like trying to solder surface mount with a plumbers iron. But emulate it on PC using the megadrive emulator with a PS2-style analogue controller and its superb. |

Winning 11 4 on PS1 - I think that's ISS Pro Evolution in Europe - I liked this game - were there many differences between the European and Japanese release of this game?
