Ntsc / Pal
I'm sure the two releases of Populous (69 & 70) were different formats (PAL and NTSC) but when I choose to have the PAL/NTSC column they both say PAL.
So what is the difference? And are there any others that are NTSC? |

They are just different versions (i.e. they have different game version numbers).
The later one we have only found in the US so far, and that was why we initially called it NTSC - even though it works fine under PAL machines. This game is actually what prompted the "Region" column - because a game may work fine on both NTSC and PAL machines but was only found in the EU or the US, but not both. Technially, both Populous games should be listed as NTSC and PAL. But we default to PAL unless it only works on NTSC, in which case we will call it NTSC. We have *very* few dumps of US games, mainly due to people in the US not having the required hardware for dumping, and that explains the lack of NTSC-only games. |

I should change the tosec filename then?
Populous (1989)(Electronic Arts)(NTSC)[0070] --> Populous (1989)(Electronic Arts)(US)[0070] Populous (1989)(Electronic Arts)(PAL)[0069] --> Populous (1989)(Electronic Arts)[0069] |

That's one of the things I meant when saying that our db can and does change
I think Fiath can make a dump of it to a text format or something that covers all the correct infos now. Also please note that languages/selection are normally not further tested if English found, until a "full release" happens. Noteworthy exceptions are the dual-language Sierra games; they seemed to be DE only but in fact they can be switched to EN, though the title stuff always reverts to DE. Actually the only real ntsc contenders are most likely the region locked Psygnosis and ReadySoft games so far. Although I am not into tnc I think Duke is right, but someone might correct me. |
