BFG9060 Fastlane Z3 compatibility - should I get another CPU card?
Hi!
I am putting together an Amiga 4000 and settled for a BFG9060. Or... that is the plan, at least. Thought soldering one myself would complement the A4000TX board that I built this spring. Have seen some old forum posts about compatibility problems with SCSI. Since they are a few years old by now, and the github page states it is compatible with the A4091 SCSI card, it surely would be compatible with my Fastlane Z3 card too... right? My main concern comes from a post on AmiBay where a user writes the BFG9060 only works with the Fastlane as a RAM card. Any SCSI devices connected causes it to not boot. Does anyone have any experience to share regarding the compatibility? Should I get a different (perhaps vintage) CPU card? I'll list some specs: A4000TX v1.1 board (Buster 11) ZZ9000 X-Surf 100 Prelude replica Fastlane Z3 w/v8.5 ROM |

Why risk it? Buy a TF4060 when they become available later this year?

As far as I know, none of the "modern" cpu cards with local memory work properly with other bus masters (dma), *except* for the brand new TF4060 (presumably because the local memory is only accessible by the cpu?).

The BFG9060 also has DMA capable RAM, but there must be some kind of timing issue or similar so that it doesn't work with every bus master.
Does anyone have info on whether the TF4060 has been tested with a Fastlane Z3? I know it has been tested with various A3000s. As for the original question regarding vintage cards, one of the Phase 5 CyberStorm cards would most likely work with the Fastlane. Then again, all of them also have a provision for a local SCSI expansion which would be faster. |

I know it is being tested with the A4091 as TF has been loaned an A4000T

On AmiBay there are a couple of posts confirming a Fastlane Z3 has been tested and working with the TF4060 card.
Sounds like a TF4060 is the way to go, unless I opt for a vintage card. The latter option would free up the slot my Fastlane currently occupy. Although the BFG9060 would be fun to build, it doesn't help much if it ends up being a paper weight with my configuration. |

Good to hear. :-)
I'll be picking one up for my hoard anyway at some point. |
