scsi.device 43.45 patched IDE A1200 4GB LIMIT PARTITIONS ?[SOLVED]
Hi,
sorry but after many times I try ... not solved this problem: well, A1200 C= Kickstart 3.1, with installed OS3.9 BB4, in internal HD IDE 44pin 80Gb, with scsi.device version 43.45 file size 15940 byte ( I have patched myself using this one http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/SCSI4345p ) and FastFileSystem is version 45.16. The problem is: I can create in HdToolBox (version 45.6) how many and how large Gb partitions I want (for exemple 8gb, 16gb ...etc...), BUT after I have created partitions > 4 Gb I can not format them (a requester about a DOS error not possibile to format or similar). //logically I have no problem with partitions < 4 Gb. In A4000 with OS3.9 BB4 I don't have this problem and I use the scsi.device version 43.45 that included in BoingBag4 (I can format and use partitions of for exemple 8gb, 16gb ...etc...), which logically is a different patched version than that for A1200, and FastFileSystem is version 45.16. So why I have no problems with > 4Gb partitions in A4000 and I have this problem in A1200 ?. I don't understand if It' a limit of internal IDE 44 controller A1200 or I need patch other in A1200' s scsi.device (?). ![]() thanks for the help/support Last edited by drluking; 06 November 2016 at 10:44. |

Without looking that video I'd say to use format <quick> or search Aminet for Format64.

seen, check4gb say It's all OK.
PFS3 need to be "installed" in RDB, right ? (if so I'm not interested to use it as filesystem) I think probably the problem is in patched scsi.device (probably needed to add some other features to format the drive with partition > 4gb ?) @zipper I have seen It's old the format64 tool as scsi.device support ... Is not dangerous try this tool with scsi.device 43.45 and FFS 45.16 ??? @zipper & @idrougge problem is in quick format ! (and also in not quick format) I don't understand because I don't have this problem with A4000 IDE ![]() |

ummm ... possibile Is It a limit of the CPU itself ? (in A1200 with this problem I use only fast ram, so its own default 68020@14).
In other Amiga4000 68040 IDE+SCSI and in a second Amiga4000 68060 IDE, no problem. |

I recently came across this problem myself with my A600 while adding a 16GB mSATA device. My understanding is that there are several problems, and unfortunately I've closed all the tabs I had open to read up about the issue. Anyway, patching the scsi.device is one step that needs to be taken, but before that, your first partition needs to be within the 4GB limit, I have set my DH0: to be 666MB and have it formatted as Fast File System. The first line of my startup-sequence then patches scsi.device and resets the machine if it's from a cold boot. My other partitions I have defined are both under 8GB, but both use PFS-AIO, as my understanding is that the other part of the potential problem is the file system - and I'm not having any problem at all with the 2 fairly large and well over 4GB Games and Work partitions that are using PFS, but my understanding is that if they were FFS I'd have issues. And as mentioned, always do a quick format, the Format tool won't work correctly if you try to do a regular format, it's not required and would take hours and hours most likely anyway. Oh, and this is on a stock A600 with the only expansion being an upgrade to 2MB chip.
I realise I may not have done this the best way, but this way works for me, and should work for you too. Have a look here: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=831346&postcount=14 |

Pretty much all format specifies on the Amiga use the RDB - only a couple don't - with the exception of MFM devices, the only non RDB friendly adaptor I can think of is is the TekMagic 040/060 from GVP that uses the FFS from the Kick ROM and that is on the A2000!. However FFS can be patched and does work with larger partitions. IMHO you need to accept the fact that if you want >4GB partition support you will need to use either a modified FFS, which sucks compared to PFS3 or SFS - the later is a little faster and offers slightly larger partitions - where as PFS3 is slightly quicker to set up and will work on a stock 68k moto. Nope, its because the format specifier you are using cannot cope with higher than 4GB, irrespective of the scsi.device version you are using. |

hello
not solved yet this problem, well I have done these things: - installed Don Adan's scsi.device 46.0 for A1200 ; this one http://wt.exotica.org.uk/files/test/SCSI.lzx (I used 45.45 patched myself) It works very well, but It does not solve this problem. - used format64 tool ; this one http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/Format64_m1 It solved the problem for partition a little bigger (exemple 6gb OK and 7.9gb ok but without creating trashcan directory), BUT It does not solve the problem with bigger partitions (exemple 16Gb). So I'd try to install PFS3 and using it only for partitions > 4Gb ... Do I need to install first this one http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/PFS3_svn_134 and then update It with this one http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/pfs3aio ??? thanks for your help |

No, you only need pfs3aio.

Hi, guys!
Could you please clarify: which 1200 ROM includes scsi.device 43.45? |

There is no official ROM with this scsi.device.
If you update your installed OS 3.9 with BoingBag 2, you can extract version 43.43 from the file AmigaOS ROM Update in the Devs directory. Then you can update it to 43.45 using the patch mentioned above. This is still a file and you have to load it using LoadModule. To get a ROM with this scsi.device you have to make your own. |
