Amiga external floppy drive won't power on

Hi all,

Another problem! Lol

As you can see by the title, I have an external floppy drive that I bought last month with my amiga but when it's plugged in there's no power going to it.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Any help at all would be much appreciated

Chrers

Open it up and check that the power cable is attached to the floppy drive, also check that the 23 pin cable is attched to the PCB.

It might be worth checking that you are getting power from the External floppy connector on the Amiga to the external drive. (Check power in the casing floppy power cable, it's only 2 wires Earth & +5v)

Check the 23 pin connector on the external floppy cable (2 srews to undo ,remove outer case). The wires inside can come loose/brittle with age.

Do you have another drive to test the port with? There is a resistor in the Amiga which can burn if the port is overloaded so perhaps there is no power going out at all. If you open the Amiga it should be easy to spot a burnt (black/brown) resistor near the connector if this is indeed the case.

I'll have to open the amiga up when I have a minute, unfortunately I don't have another drive to test, I'll check everything in the external hard drive too and see if I can spot something, however to be honest, electronics and circuitry arnt my thing

Thanks :-)

Ive just looked at my external floppy drive, but have no idea how to open it, it seems to be sealed and no screws are visible, not even under feet. It's a cumana drive if that helps?

something strange with that floppy drive i tell ya, i managed to get it apart by looking at the links you provided. couldnt see anything that looked out of place, so i thought bugger it ill just plug it back in with the lid off so i could hear better if there was power running through it etc. it powered up instantly.

no idea what was causing the lack of power but its fine now.
