Ik+(++)
Hi, there!
I don't know whether it belongs here - so please dear MOD feel free to move this post - thanks. Recently I got seriously pissed off by my favorite party game IK+ since the actual games is every second round disrupted by the annoying ball-deflection or bomb-kicking game. Since I did not find a ready solution I had to do it myself and debugged with Winuae and patched the game. Then I wrote a little boring intro and put the stuff together and nothing worked I changed to Stingrays startup-code which really is great and will be used from now on all the time I need it - but still had troubles with the loader. Fortunately I found a small binary, and used the crunched bin to include it at the end of my intro - had to do some mem-"relocation" to make it work and appply the patch after decrunching with also 512KB (thanks Stingray again, for answering my questions). Anyway the game is much more fun now without the disruptions. Hope you also enjoy it. If you find some bugs please tell me - it took me a while to see that after the patch the levels were counting wrong so I had to check that again, and afterwards with 512KB I noticed that the fighters were not reset after entering the next level - so possible there is still something although it looked quite ok - but I have to admit I'm hardly able to reach level 17... Making this patch and the intro was real fun and I could learn a lot especially how to startup properly But the game code of IK+ is really a mess - but maybe that's the case with most of the games. I upped Ik+++ to the zone. Adio! |

Nice idea, although I like those sub games.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've wanted this option for a very long time!
Now, if only StingRay would write a WHDLoad patch for it... |

Updating the IK+ patch and adding an option to skip the sub-games is not much of a problem, personally I like them though. IK+ has been patched by Wepl, I'll see what he says about an updated patch so either him or me will do it.

Thanks, it is pretty interesting.
I am waiting for people who will ask Herpes for a version which skip the annoying battles allowing you to only play the sub games . In one player-game I don't have an issue with the sub games, but it is true that when playing with a friend it was a bit of a bother sometimes if you tried to play them seriously (instead of dying as soon as possible) as it meant the other player had nothing to do for a while. |

We need a patch for 2nd player that would allow him to control those balls and bombs then

What about a balls vs. bombs 2 player sub-game?

If you put it that way... you got a point there.

A 3-Player patch would be nice too. Just like IK+ Gold for the C64.

+1 for 3 player patch. Maybe even a 4-player hack would be possible on the amiga?

Not sure how... I thought it only allowed 2 players, unless there is a way to take control of CPU into character?

Thanks for it. The subgames are really boring after some time. Just wait for WHDLoad install.

Does not work on NTSC. Shame. Works on PAL but it has a large gap at the bottom of the screen. Do all the IK+ games require PAL and don't use the whole screen????

@all: thanks for the nice ideas ... it looks that there is potential to waste a huge amount of time for me adding some more options to that game. Pretty sure I will realize some of these suggestions in the future but at the moment I will make a break since my son will be born with the next 2 weeks

http://www.thegamearchives.com It would be nice if you find a version which works on NTSC and PAL - if that exists - then I would patch that version as well if you like. But I think the WHDLOAD patch will be released earlier than I find a solution for this problem... |

I tried another IK+ and it does indeed work well on NTSC so it is possible.
edit tried the one from this link: http://trinity.geforce.nl/~mb/files/..._collection/i/ Has Return of the Jedi and Driller on it too. It's the single filed version, also called "International Karate + (1988)(System 3).adf" Last edited by TjLaZer; 31 March 2013 at 19:54. |
