You cannot ADF the original Elfmania as both disks are MFM copy protected

Aha, thats interesting.. what exactly is that MFM copy protection ?
Anyway, does anyone know if there's any kind of cracked version adfsof Elf Mania where highscores can be saved ? Or was that possible even with the original disks..?

MFM is where the disk uses a custom format that can't be copied without knowing details of how it is layed out. So you can't make ADFs of it without cracking the game.

A cracked version of Elfmania is easy to come by, there is one on planetemu.net (but of course you knew that because you have read the FAQ haven't you? ) I've no idea if it saves highscores or not - but I'd guess it doesn't.

If you desparately want highscore saving then you would have to use the WHDLoad version instead.

No, but read his topic? He is not searching for a crack or a IPF! It is so difficult to read carefully?

Obviously it is for you...

We've already said he ISN'T going to find a non-cracked ADF and if he doesn't want an IPF then he is screwed. But, he said he WOULD take a cracked version if it saved highscores... but if he doesn't want WHDLoad then he's shit out of luck with that too

I`ve also noted that some IPF games can be converted to ADF. Is this possible with Elf or Elfmania

Shite, I hope you didn't get that impression from my testing

Another World + Flashback were very rare exceptions as they do not have protection, weird track sizes or file systems

I guess you could always try...

If WWarp can understand the MFM then it should be possible to create DISKS on a real Amiga - but they still won't be ADF-friendly I'm afraid.

WWarp will not correctly write back to disk a Copylock track that exists on Elf

WWarp will not correctly write back to disk the MFM on Elfmania.

I think this thread is somewhat exhausted, the question has been answered.

Fair enough, I trust your judgement on this Galahad. But for the other guys future reference you can sometimes get lucky on a game and WWarp will write back the MFM tracks.

Hi all, and thanks for the many answers .
I think I have to play with the cracked floppy version. It doesn't in my opinion make much sense to play hd-installed (whd-) version, if you have to keep one floppy in disk drive anyway.. ;-)
So, I prefer playing floppy version.
If highscores are not saved in the original version, then that's it.

However, I think I'm quite interested in the CAPS project and IPFs and all kinds of strange formats, and will have to get more information.
Is there any (easy?) way of transferring IPF files to ADFs ?
What does that process require?

Cheers

You can try to copy all unprotected IPFs with X-Copy under WinUAE. You cannot write back the protected games at the moment. Check the SPS site for more infos.
