Opening sealed original Amiga items?
I have a fresh box of Tearaway Thomas, should I leave it in the shrink wrap or just unwrap it?
Are there any other people like this out there? How do you live with yourselves? It's looking at me now and I don't know what to do! Discuss! What do you have sealed and will you ever open it? |

Put it on top of your cupboard and look at it in all its sealed, shrinkwrapped glory. That's what you bought it for, right? RIGHT???
Seriously though, if you just bought it to have it in your collection and seeing that SPS and HOL seem to have it covered, I think you could just keep it sealed and let the bit rot do the rest |

gah, the disks are rattling about inside! I want to read the manual!
It was much easier in 1992 opening these things! Now I'm all sacred about it |

I would also like to know if there is a 'real' manual inside or if it's just the 4 page something that is on HOL (which I need to convert... tomorrow...).

I have to admit, that I DID open a lot of sealed Amiga stuff back in the 90's, but now, I wouldn't. The collectors dilemma, I guess

You could be like me and after buying a sealed game, go buy an opened one to play with! I do that with a lot of my CD32 titles, most of which are still sealed.

Over my life I've collected cars, transformers, a billion Star Trek items, vintage computers etc. I used to keep these items in pristine condition in their packaging and it wasn't a lot of fun. I've had a TON more fun purchasing a few already opened items in good condition and ACTUALLY using/touching them.

I have few sealed games and although I am curious what is inside the box, I keep them wrapped. In one case I bought another copy with unsealed box, just to look inside. And after my curiosity was satisfied, I sold the opened box and kept the sealed one
Crazy, I know. |

I once opened a shrink wrapped CDTV version of "Wrath of the demon".
It came from the USA. That was cool. So the spirit has been freed. |

I got a copy of Brutal Sports Football new and sealed for my Atari Jaguar recently.
I must admit some fear mixed with excitement on tearing the wrapping off the mint box and was very concerned about damaging the card by pulling open the flap to reveal the exciting inner carton. Sliding the inner carton out revealed a deliciously fine looking manual with no creases and the cartridge in a mini plastic bag. It was just like buying the game back in the mid 90s. I then played the game for about 5 minutes and put the Jaguar back in the loft. It was like fast food - a quick thrill and then a low afterwards. |

I enjoy breaking seals! I love collecting games with goodies and love to watch every little detail of them. You can feel the experience from a third party perspective at 7.30 in this youtube, where you can watch me unsealing an old Apple II text adventure while people try to convince me not to
[ Show youtube player ] One of the last seals I've broken was this Mac copy of Zork Trilogy, just to see that little beautiful thing inside: Last Amiga seal I ripped apart was this copy of Demoniak: ... so I could see there was actually an Alan Grant-Matt Wagner Judge Dredd comic inside . Imho, "feelies" (as extras used to be called at Infocom's) are, as the name implies, to be "felt" (and lovingly cared for by dedicated collectors). So don't be afraid, step ahead, break the seal! EDIT: Not Matt Wagner, but Jhon Wagner, of course, my memories mixing everything! ^_^' -- Last edited by rockersuke; 11 November 2010 at 23:01. |

Speaking of CDTV. I am sitting on a new in box CDTV and CDTV pro kit... It is killing me... But what a cool Christmas present it would be to open!
