A4000d - IOMega IDE ZIP and IDE CD-ROM
Hi Everyone,
I've an ACIL 4000d that Im building into a custom tower case. I'm considering running my OS from my A4091 with a ZuluSCSI and connecting both of my IDE peripherals (ZIP, CDR) to the onboard IDE (or a FastATA card). Wondering if running an IDE CD-ROM as Master and the ZIP drive as Slave on the internal IDE is doable and what is required to configure them both? Also, bit of a long shot, but as I have an Elbox FastATA lying around, would the ZuluSCSI and a FastATA card - both Z3 - play nice as an alternate to the onboard IDE? Im using a Buster 11 but even so.... Any advice appreciated. Mark |

It should work fine to have the CD and Zip on the internal IDE.
You will need an ATAPI driver if you are running OS 3.1 or older. |

Hi Folks, Im getting a bit of an odd error with this internal IDE ZIP drive using the IOMEGA tools from Aminet - "failed to obtain disk status....error: packet request type unknown".
Ive tried the DosDriver from Elbox, the one one included with the AmiNet IOMega tools (One seems to handle it like a big floppy - cannot get that to work at all! - and one like a hard drive using the SCSI.Device). Im using the Elbox FastATA card but, even with the installer, am going around in circles with it! The IOMega tools can see the drive, and the drive appears on my desktop - but I cant format the ZIP disk nor can i eject it via workbench. The disk is fine - Ive tested it out in windows with a USB ZIP drive. |

i used to format all my Zips in FAt on the PC and use FAT95 in the device file.
The IOMega tools are OK but i always found them flakey on my A1200, sometimes flawless, sometimes errors. It depends how the ZIP drive is configured, as a Hard Drive (fixed disk) or Removal floppy also. I found the removable option creatred less problems as they are cross compatible with a PC. If WB cant format the disk, then likely the ZIP: device mount file needs a tweak - do some googling and searching in here for example mountlists (text files that are ZIP: in your DEVS.) Apologies if you have tried all this - just my experience |
