MagicWB20r.lha wanted
Hi everyone - looking for the registered MagicWB20r.lha. Can anyone help?
Thanks Luke (Obvs have scoured the Zone and the File Server - no luck) Last edited by Lukeya; 10 October 2020 at 11:18. Reason: Wrong reference |

Ok, uploaded to the zone ...
... but why do you need that? There are lots of free MWB icon collections on Aminet and I won't recommend to use the MagicWB demon for locking the colors. Better use FullPalette for that purpose or Workbench preferences of OS 3.9 or 3.1.4. |

Peter, its just so I don't keep getting the Register stuff, as I've just installed MWB21p and discovered I can't register it.
I'll take your advice on the icon colour locking though!! Cheers Luke |

Peter,
Actually, I see what you mean. I guess its just because I used MWB back in the early 90s when it came out and I'd like to do that again. When you say, locking the colours what do you mean exactly? I've just returned after 25 years and am trying to find my way in this. How would I replace all of the icons with MWB ones without the MWB installer? Sounds like a very hard task, or is there an easy way? Cheers Luke |

Which OS version do you use and how many colors has your screenmode?
The MagicWB demon was once responsible for setting the MWB colors and locking the pens, but I think it was also causing slowdowns of the system. On a system with only 8 colors you could simply execute the MagicWB tool "ClickForColors" once and open Prefs/Palette where you should see the correct MWB colors and then save these settings. Prefs/Palette always keeps the first 4 and the last 4 colors (in multicolor mode) locked. For screens with more than 8 colors you will also have to set the pens 4-7 to the MWB colors which can be enabled in Prefs/Workbench of OS 3.9 or 3.1.4 or with FullPalette on other systems. With FullPalette you can set the colors of your screens palette and lock any pen. For MWB 4-7 and the last 4 pens (if you have some MWB icons that still use the latter). For swapping icon images without changing tooltypes there are several tools available on Aminet or you can use CopyIcon from Stephan Rupprecht which is also included in my IconLib_46.4 package among the ThirdParty programs. It has a GUI window where you can drag and drop source and destination icons onto to copy the images. |

Peter,
I think that I follow you. I'm on 3.1.4.1. Let me poke around and look into it. Are your libraries a good idea for this task then? Kind regards Luke |

Hmm, unfortunately Picasso II seems not to be capable to do non-interlaced Hi/TrueColor in higher resolutions than 800x600. 8-bit modes on graphic cards are just a compromise of quality, resolution and speed.
MWB icons are using planar images only, the worst case for RTG screens with chunky pixels. They are really fast on native Amiga modes, because they need no palette mapping like color icons, but that means there is nearly nothing how my icon.library could make MWB icons faster. |

Peter,
I've got a Cybervision 64 (the Zorro 2 version) to try and that might be a bit better. Its only an experiment to be honest, and I've also installed Magellan, so perhaps I'll try using the newicons instead. I just have fond memories of MWB in the old days...;-) Cheers for your help Luke |

Ok, that would be better, but NewIcons are only the second worst.
Why not trying ColorIcons or if you have a fast CPU then PNG or OS4 icons for best quality ? |

Yes, a 030 at 50 MHz should be fast enough with my FastWB version to use PNG or OS4 icons on Hi/TrueColor screens. Just try it out with some icon sets. I could only emulate a 28 MHz system on WinUAE in cycle exact mode, but don't have a real Amiga for speed tests.
OS 3.2 will probably come with a faster Workbench, which won't need my FastWB hack anymore and thus can be used with the normal TC020 version. |

Peter - I did a re-installation of 3.1.4.1 and used FullPalette instead of the MWB control programme and much to my amazement the whole thing works very well so now I have a 256 colour WB, with my favourite MWB icons and backdrops!! Very many thanks indeed.

On 3.1.4.x or 3.9 you can simply enable MWB colors in Prefs/Workbench and use ClickForColors once and then save Prefs/Palette, too.
FullPalette is only required on other systems or if you need to lock more pens like for a 16 color palette. |

Hi Luke, I've just encountered the same problem with MWB 2.1... I've just upgraded to OS 3.2 and KS 3.2, added a 36 GB SCSI hard drive which works flawlessly with two 18 Gig partitions in OS 3.2, by the way... and I was quite surprised that it can't be registered anymore and is just a piece of abandonware. c".)
However, you CAN get rid of the annoying splash screen at startup by commenting out the lines in startup-sequence and user-startup. I did that, and now I only have the black "not registered" icons when opening my drawers. I can live with that, until I find a better solution. c",) |

I may be a little late but I have the registered version of MagicWB20R. You can find it on the EAB ftp under ~uploads/ptyerman along with MagicWB 2.1P.

MagicWB mess
How to get back to normal icons and background after the installation of MagicWB ?
I removed lines from startup-sequence and user-startup but doesn't seems to be enough Reinstallation of GlowIcons from 3.2 install disks didn't help either |
