The chip that manages the Floppy Drive

HI
On A500, what is the chip that specifically manages the floppy drive?

Both CIAs and Paula. Same as in every other Amiga.

I didn't know that Paula, in addition to audio, also managed the floppy drive.

Which of the two CIAs is responsible, ODD or EVEN?

Both, for general signals.

Paula handles the data I/O transfer, drives the DMA for Agnus, and the IRQs.

This is why the Amiga floppy drive make its very recognizable sound.

Has nothing to do with Paula.

The sound of the drive is determined by how much of a delay there is between the head stepping to the next track when seeking across the disk.

Right, then I'll go back to debug Paula.. something still doesn't convince me about how it loads from disks.. something is out of tune..

Amiga is serious business, if you want fun and laughter, buy (?) An Atari ST, there you will have all the laughs you need

The legendary sound of the Drive heads while reading has always fascinated me. It's a typical Amiga sound

So would Paula be the one to make the floppy drive generate such a sound?
What would be the technical explanation why the sound changes in intensity and pitch?

The great thing is that with each game it generates different reading sounds

I guess it's due to the unique organisation of files on the Amiga disk and perhaps the hardware. I don't know if the brand used in the A500 was a particular one and consistent through years. I think the A500 case played a role too, working like a guitar body. I had an external floppies drive coming from a PC and I don't remember it having the distinctive sound.

And perhaps the fact that Paula drove the floppy instead a standard controller made a difference in the timing of the movements of the head and so the sound. Finally my joke was perhaps half true without I realise it on the moment.

One of the CIA's is responsible for the stepping signal, but it is actually generated by the main cpu. given that each game (more or less) used different trackloaders, the timing would be slightly different, and would make stepping sound different. Also, as indicated above, the organization of the data on the disk, which would also be up to the developer in this case, affects the sound.
