Molex Connecter wiring problem.....

I have just acquired a new system and after looking inside,i have found
that the red wire has been taken out of the first molex connector,and bypassed straight into the second connector

Excuse me for my lack\ignorance of this minor wiring problem,but is there any reason why it would be like this ?

Perhaps it came out when it was previously connected, however why not just place it back into the hole it came out of, you just have to use a fine knife, like an Xacto knife, to carefully bend the metal tab on the connector back up a little bit and reinsert it into the same hole it came out in the first place

BTW - we are talking about the 4-pin Hard Drive type molex connector correct ?!?

If this is correct then the standard connections for a 4-pin Molex connector is as follows:

Pin1 = +12VDC = Yellow
Pin2 = Ground = Black
Pin3 = Ground = Black
Pin4 = +5VDC = Red

This should be correct even on an older AT style PS. You can find this info over at Formfactors.ORG

So is the wire actually been pulled out of the molex connector or from the wiring harness that goes into the power supply unit ?!?

Has been pulled out of the first molex connector,so the red wire comes from the psu,by passes the first molex and goes straight into the second\last molex connector !

With the red wire out of the first molex connector.....would i still get power or not ?

Yes and know, i.e., you need the RED wire to supply the +5VDC power to the drive as well as the YELLOW wire which provides the +12VDC. You need one of the GROUND wires however you can by without having them both connected.

If you need to connect back that wire then you really want a good crimping tool, however, I find it easier to get a Molex "Y" power cable instead. Connect this up to the connector that has all the power cables and then use this instead.
