Thankie!

I noticed a 'toki.rar' in "Misc/The Zone!/T" on the EAB server. Is that the file you're talking about, Boo Boo?

Yes, this is (Quartex?) cracked version with removed cracktro. Lame like all of budget (budget=cracked) versions without protections.

Not quite.

Yes this appears to be based on the Quartex crack, but they actually had to put stuff back in to make it complete.

And no, it is not the case that all unprotected budget versions are based on the cracked version either. Many were redone specifically for the budget release.

All Hit Squad Atari ST releases were redone by Zippy (an ST cracker) at the request of Ocean.

I compared Toki budget version and Toki cracked (preview) version, when I ripped music, all data files and file offsets are identical to cracked Toki (preview version) not to final sales version (some files are different in final version). If I remember right Quartex cracktro was removed, maybe main exe file was changed too. No more changes. I see too many budget (?) versions, over 90% of budget (psuedo piracy) versions is lame for me, due are cracked versions without cracktro.

No more changes? So the inclusion of the missing Ocean logo with credits escaped your notice then?

90% of budget versions are NOT based on the cracked versions.

Many budget games were unaltered from the original version that was released as full price.

Speaking of the Ocean logo, the way it loads up is different in the budget version compared to the retail version (which did a fade to white first before showing the logo, all while the disk grinded pretty loudly).

Oh yeah, thankies go out to you Boo Boo.

Do you know if Parasol Stars was changed for its budget release or if it still remained encrypted like with the retail version?

encrypted to the ears. The game in itself is something like 260kb. All the rest is many layers of encoding + encryption.

The whdload slave allows to get the real files out of the encrypted/protective shell.

Only in memory surely? The slave runs a disk image, after all.

Nope, the files are saved in the game folder, each time one is called.

CFOU made this option because i requested it.

The files are in the elmer food (Jon woods) graphic format, compressed.

Ah okay, must've been a recent addition as WHDownload only has a disk image version. Will check it out!

I wonder if "Parasol Stars - Rainbow Islands 2 (1992)(Ocean.adf" in the TOSEC is actually a barebones decrypted ADF made straight out of whoever's decryption routine? I initially assumed it to be a hacked version of a scene image with the cracktro call edited out, but it doesn't match either the Skid Row or Flashtro versions in terms of structure.

parasol stars exists in 2 flavours :
- Encrypted + copylock + checksums and
- VERY encrypted + copylock + MORE checksums XD

wait, parasol starts file export function is not made to run the game in files. It's just to get the files as they were BEFORE being buried in the encoding and encrypted layers.
