Google Chrome - Pouet.net downloading issues

I've got a problem with Google Chrome and the Pouet.net Demoscene website, where certain download links just won't do anything when clicked, or Chrome blocks the download with a message because it thinks it's malicious, when it's harmless.

Like this example:
https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=3057

Clicking on the current download link (ftp://ftp.amigascne.org/pub/amiga/Gr...sychedelic.LHA) will do absolutely nothing.

The worst part is, I can't just try another browser like MS Edge because Chrome will demand to take over that browser when I click on the same download link!

I have tried resetting Chrome to defaults, but no joy. Is anyone else getting this or am I just plain stuck?

Indeed, perhaps because it's an insecure FTP. You can go to the mirrors link and there you can find alternative download sources which will work.

The Demozoo link had the Kestra Bitworld link which works, so I simply submitted that link to the Pouet.net page. Looks like many others will have to be changed, too.

Well you can always use a proper FTP client to do the downloads I guess.

I haven't used one of those in ten years or more, not about to start again now.

I’m fairly certain web browsers have removed the ability to utilize FTP, so I think this is probably expected behavior at this point.

Yes, FTP is being phased out across the Internet, it seems.

I did that, it still didn't download it, but Chrome "looks busy" for a second or two when I clicked on the link.

SOLVED: It doesn't matter anyway, as it turns out all I have to do is to copy the link address from Pouet (the page I linked to above) with the "ftp:" part in it, and then change that to "http:" and then it downloads fine. Seems that "amigascne" website supports non-ftp download means.

Thanks again to everyone who tried to help, including the guy who told me about the ftp change before he deleted his post. I had no idea this was happening in the world of the Internet.

I suspect this is related to the Chrome change that blocks insecure content being accessed from secure pages? (e.g. HTTP links will no longer work from a site running on HTTPS).

I've found Exotica has the same issue with its downloads.

I've just discovered this for myself.

Pouet.net approved the above download link from "ftp:" to "http:", but when I clicked on it again, nothing happened. I found I had to copy the link address and then open it on a new tab for the file to finally download.

I know the emphasis is on security and so on, but this sort of thing just means more hoops for us to jump through to download files that are technically harmless on x86/x64 processors!
