Problems using gamepad button 2
Hi folks,
I've recently been testing gamepads for Amiga games (Mega drive pads + PS controller) but seemingly struggling to use button 2 - it simply doesn't work. For example, Roadkill accelerates fine when set to CD32 pad but no button can activate the rockets. Similarly, when I activate 'Custom 1' (Whdload) in Ruff n Tumble no button allows me to jump (= no jumping possible at all). Any ideas what might be causing this? Is it the pads? Is it the Whdload version (I have the latest one)? Regards |

In Roadkill you just select joystick to use the 2nd button to fire rockets iirc

Maybe test with a joytest program to see if all the buttons works:

Which Amiga model you use ?
Don't use a MegaDrive pad on Amiga without a proper adapter/converter. |

Made some progress...am thinking it might be a Workbench setting or driver? I switched from A1200 to A500 + ACA 500...same problem using the same game files and gamepad (although different workbench config). Then connected ACA500+ with (again) new workbench config but same pad and same game file...works fine!
Basically, I know for sure that pad and game files work. And I know that there are some workbench setups that work and some not. Could it be a setting or driver in WB? Although its great that the A500 works it doesn't help me on my a1200 Roadkill AGA setup. |

Joypad on Amiga are managed by lowlevel.library in Workbench.

Thanks for the tip... I replaced the non-working file with the seemingly working one. Still the same challenge unfortunately.
Any other thoughts welcome. Sent from my F5321 using Tapatalk |

Lowlevel.library was only included with Kickstart 3.1 and up, so games that use that won't work on older systems without adding it. I'm not fully sure if that's what you mean by replacing the seemingly faulty file.
However, most games don't use it since they need to work on Kickstart 3.0 and below (and it's not needed for reading 2-button controllers), so it could potentially be a problem elsewhere. Certain patches and configurations might interfere with 2-button use since with a CD32 pad certain pins have to be configured certain ways to put it in 2-button mode. If you have things like Freewheel or similar mouse adaptor drivers installed it could cause problems. |
