To call the quality of gambling halls implementations on the Amiga "mixed" is still flattering. High time for a perfect adaptation!

Hero of the World in Tecmo's Platformer "Rygar" is a well-built barbarian of the same name. Armed with a throwing shield and a circular ax, they march through the predominantly horizontal-scrolling climes and set bizarre creatures aside: for example, from the air-attacking demons and biting worms that drilled out on the ground. Run, jump with fire buttons stakkato animals and occasionally collect extras. That was enough for enjoyable hours in the arcade in 1986 and still entertains us quite well on the Amiga today, as the ever-new opponent package brings plenty of variety in the midst of various scenes. In addition, the responsive control has grown at a very high speed, especially when using a 2-button stick. You have to be frustation resistant, because every opponent contact ends fatally.

Graphics, music and sound match the original of 1986. That certainly does not bring out the best of AGA Amigas, but what matters is: The Amiga implementation is top. Neither parallax scrolling nor attackers jerk or twitch, even at high enemy density, and the flow is right. Compliment to coder Graeme Cowie and his comrades. Incidentally, it is an unauthorized and thus semi-legal implementation, which the creator wisely spread only via free download. A tryout costs nothing.

Mostly a Google translation. I'm too lazy for a proper translation.

Probespielen kostet aJso rux. (rl)

I was honestly a bit shocked when I saw the 73% for Rygar in the magazine.
Should have at least been above 80 imho.

It's easily among one of the Amiga's top 3 releases this year.

I'll see what Retro Gamer gives it - that's what counts for me.

100% agree

...but you know why regarding the scores / ranking, I already mentioned in the reason in post #71

I'm positive if we were to run a poll here on EAB then the situation between the 2 games would be reversed.

Yup, we could do that... someone needs to provide me with a list of all 2019 games releases though, as I'm too busy to compile myself

Indeed... next year will be even better... lots of games in the works.

Tiny Little Slug... this game I just realised that their author "slamy" was the guy who got the hi-score on Rygar and won the boxed edition. That game looks superb.

Hyperborea... also looks excellent.

I best raise my game.

Yes, Rygar is a very good (if not a perfect port). But the game itself in 2019? I can be very repetitive at times and isn't aged well, compared to other Arcade games. Come on, 73% isn't that bad. Personally i would rate it probably between 75-80, mabye 78% or something.

I suppose it depends if one likes the original arcade or not. As a conversion, it's near perfect, so more than 90% for sure in that aspect. As a game, with all the aspects factored in, it'd still be near 90% for me personally, especially with all those extras mcgeezer has put in!

Well 90% would be insane. This is something we'd expect from UK mags in the 80s. Well if this specific Rygar port would have been a commercial release in, let's say 1992/93 for AGA, it would've probably got something between 80-85% here in Germany.

"Tales of Gorluth II - The Legacy of the Travelling Magician"; I think that was released last year or the one before. You're thinking about "Heroes of Gorluth"

It's a good start but there are more than what you've listed above; off the top of my head:
  • Celtic Heart
  • JetHunt
  • Landfill
  • Lumberjack Platform
  • River Raid Reloaded
  • Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon [Atari ST conversion]
  • The Kiwi's Tale [AGA] [Windows conversion]
  • Trap Runner
  • Zerosphere Collector's Edition
