We haven't had an AMPlifier update since Boing Bag 3 and it was all I could use because of latency issue with AmigaAMP. Now, with this release, I'm getting cleaner audio and none of the latency issues with previous releases on my current set-up. I was able to pull over my playlists, including my radio playlists plus I could load .pls, .m3u, etc., direct radio URLs no problem. I didn't have to tweak any of the default settings as I did in the past to improve latency - there was none. I'm very pleased.

I downloaded that version, and it seems to run very fine on my vampire V1200 AHI OS3.9 setup.

Just one question, when I play some MP3s of mine, it sounds quite "rough", like there is a low frequency or bit range at work.

I am new to this OS stuff, and would like to know what I can do to get better sound out of good old Paula. And I am very sure that she can do better than what I am hearing at the moment.

I just installed it on my Vampirised A600 and it works well

Could you try on another Amiga?

Cheers!

This has got nothing to do with the Vampire.
The "rough" sound you're hearing is probably noise and digital artifacts being introduced from the fact that your 16bit stereo MP3's are being truncated to 14bit stereo for Paula (But then that gets split between two 8 bit channels, 8 on one and the last 6 on the other.)
There is a 14bit calibration utility found in this AHI driver:

http://aminet.net/package/driver/audio/AHI-Paula

It will probably take about an hour to properly use the calibration utility so you have to be patient, but it is worth it. It won't completely remove the noise but the improvement is noticeable.

Okay, thank you..

I can hear some kind of "hollow metallic ring sound" with bass sounds, like kick drums, etc, when I play MP3s, I hope this helps a little bit...

Are you running at a high enough sample rate? You can get artifacts like that from having a low sample rate, in fact, the Amiga's audio filter is designed specifically to absorb those aliasing effects and thus make lower sample rates sound better. Some MP3 players default to lower sample rates to enable them to run on lower 68k CPUs, so you need to go in and manually increase the setting. Additionally (though this is less likely your problem), Paula tops out at around 28kHz, and most MP3s follow the CD sampling rate of 44.1kHz, so there could be some artifacts as a result of that. You can trick Paula into running higher frequencies by running a double-speed screenmode on the native chipset. This assumes you're using a display that can handle DblPAL or DblNTSC. Alternatively, if you're using RTG, Picasso96 has a setting that sets up a fake double speed native mode to achieve the same effect.

I had some problems with Rush, and some other MP3s also that I encoded from my CDs archives. I'm using Paula as well. I use original AHI most often because it works with the game Abuse, where newer versions don't. Newer also benefit from this. I use scripts to change between them I've made.

Try Paula HiFi 14 Bit stereo calibrated ++ (or not, Wipeout 2097 doesn't play well with ++) and Frequency of 22050. Channels 1. My MP3s sounds great played through my HDTV...from Picasso 4 like Native Amiga.

Agreed, I adore this program! I only wish MP4 was supported under OS 3.x...(at least with PPC). None the less, brilliant!

Yep, I have tried all of this stuff, and ran my MP3s at 44,1khz. I still get that hollow metallic sound over everything.
Nothing like that when I ran Eagleplayer, though..

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but I'm running AmigaAmp on an A3660 in an A4000, and finding things go from being fluid around 128k/44.1khz to suddenly jumpy and irresponsive at 256k/44.1khz. I'm using AHI with a Repulse soundcard.

I was wondering what settings people use here? Does the mpega.library implementation matter? If so, any recommendations for an 060/50?

Customized some old native WinAMP skins on AmigaAMP, some where they were absent I created Equalizer Skin and PlayList.
