StormC v3 editor crawling slow on '030@25MHz

Lately I've decided to try out StormC v3 that's on the Amiga Developer CD.

The one thing about it is that the editor (StormEd) is slow as a snail. I don't mean a bit, or in a fairly usable sense, I mean that when I type, the characters are lagging considerably, taking a few seconds to catch up.

This is obviously not usable at all.

I'm using it with an A3000 '030@25MHz, 2Mb+16Mb running 3.1.4.1. I also have a Cybervision 64 (4Mb) and have tried with and without RTG screens and the slowness is the same.

Is my setup not fast enough for it? Or is there something I've not configured right?

Cheers

StormC3 is buggy. StormC4 is GCC 2. You're better off with other compilers, I'm afraid.

True - I usually use VBCC or GCC, but I'm doing a survey of compilers and tools on the Amiga and would still like to figure out what's up with the editor.

I guess you can give it a bad review then. Good luck finding a solution, I hope you get it working.

@a1k3k I use StormC4 frequently. Mostly on WinUAE, but sometimes also on a A1200/68030/50. Apart from the typical DblPAL@16 colors speed issue which is due to AGA limits it runs very usable. When typing, characters appear immediately, no lagging. Marking blocks, copy, paste, all very fast.

So maybe it is something with your Amiga/StormC setup.

As you do a tools survey I think it's worth to give CubicIDE (GoldEd) a look. For coding directly on the Amiga it has some features I haven't seen on any other 68k ide, e.g.
- Vbcc integration
- Gcc (2.95 or 3.3) integration
- SAS-C integration, allows to use the SAS-debugger
- displays prototypes of AmigaOS functions when moving the cursor over such a function call in source file
- has a shortcut to display all functions of current source file and allows to quick jump-to

Are you running anything that could be interfering with it? Maybe try running it without the Startup-Sequence.
