WTB Blizzard 1260
I know, I know! Everyone would probably want one right? :-)
Anyway, been looking for a couple of years now. If anyone has one for sale please get in touch...time to retire the old 1240 I think. |

The 1240 could probably be upgraded to a 060. Maybe Stachu (iirc) or Chucky can do it.

Yeah - thanks for the idea and I did have a look at upgrading. But would involve lots of cooling plus I think Blizzard architecture is superiour.

Borgy, what 1240 accelerator do you have currently? Blizzard, Apollo, ...?

The 060 needs less cooling than the 040, so upgrading your current 1240 is a viable option. Chucky has a source of 060 chips at the moment too so it might be a good time. You're right though, the Blizzard is a more stable and compatible design, at the cost of slightly slower speeds in certain circumstances.

the 060 or the 040 don't need any cooling , both cpus consumes only between 4 and 7 watts both can be used fanless it happens in the era were retards adding unnecessary fans to some cpus |

To OP: Back in the day, I was a very early adopter and ordered one of the first Blizzard 1260s as soon as they became available in Germany ( and I live in Sweden) however I sold it sometime in the year 2001 or so.. Took a long time but some years ago I bought a rev 6 (latest version) 060 and had my Apollo 1240 upgraded by a fella in the forums known as mjnurney. (The Apollo must have a mach rev 131. If it's 130 you're out of luck.) Anyhoo.. it was a surface mounted 040 which was desoldered from the board and replaced with a socketed 060. Apart from the required voltage fix (5 to 3.3V) the conversion also included a 64MB RAM mod (I have single module 64MB) and a RTC battery fix. He did a very professional job and I'm happy with the board. I would agree that Blizzards are a better design, but if you happen to have an upgradable 1240 then the above mentioned conversation might be a good option. Skickat från min HTC One via Tapatalk |

Actually that is not entirely true. It depends on the program code inside the Mach chip whether it is upgradeable to 060 or not. Early(?) Apollo 1240s with Mach 130 can't be upgraded but later ones can. Unfortunately it's not possible to tell if someone's Apollo with Mach 130 is upgradeable before it has been tried.

I think for now I'll continue looking for a Blizz rather than upgrade the Apollo.

Or do what I did and source a blizzard 1240 and have Stan upgrade it to an 060. It worked out MUCH cheaper than paying straight 1260 prices.

Good idea, however, arent Blizz 1240s really rare? I've never seen one for sale anywhere.

I have one that I don't need. I've been searching for it for a long time but when I got it I decided to buy an A4000. So If you are interested just answer me.
