Beneath a Steel Sky working version?

Do you guys have working version of Beneath a Steel Sky OCS/ECS? Tosec contains some disks of PDX and DLM versions but not all images contains who cracked them and not sure which version works completely. I want to write them back on real disks so IPF is not an option.

So any ideas where I can get 100% version?

You could convert IPF to ADF and write back to floppy, but it seems also the original release has some bugs(WHDLoad info).

...maybe the v1.1 patch disk by originally released by "Virgin" removes this bugs.

So there are no fixed crack version? IPF could be ok but havent never tried converting it to ADF. Then I should find v1.1 patch from somewhere and instructions for it.

Any reason to write images back to floppy, i suppose a game with 15 Disks is a nightmare to play from floppy, i would prefer the original HD-install or WHDLoad.
Anyway i could upload update disk to the zone, if you really need it.
Then i would take IPF release v1.0 and update to v1.1 using the update disk.

I have the original game and no hard disk currently so the update disk could be valuable in this case.

I'm going to try convert original IPF disks right now to ADF and then write them back on DD disks.

There's a version kicking about on CD.

Do you have a CD drive?

Thanks a lot. Actually I downloaded newest tosec from pleasuredome but by some reason I didn't noticed the update disk.

IPF converted to ADFs. uaeunp.exe informed me that disk is not PC-formatted. Let see if extraction to ADF worked. Writing to the disks is currently going on with Catweasel IV+ and Imagetool v3.3.0.176b.

Sorry no cd-drive currently. I'm going to buy hard disk soon.

Eh, writing extended adf files doesn't work with Imagetool. Any other ideas how to write them on amiga disk?

Beneath a Steel Sky isn't physically protected iirc, so convert(extract) it to a normal ADF not an extended ADF. If it doesn't work with UAEUNP you could try X-Copy via WinUAE.

Ooh that would be very nice. Current problem is how to write extended format on real disk but I'll try XCopy trick tomorrow proposed by Retro-nerd .

Impressive mai. Thank you . I written them to real disks and checked them through with Fixdisk because wanted to see that patching did not caused any errors for files.

Couple questions:
1. Why there are no disk_11 at all? disk_10 and then disk_12? Noticed the same on IPF images with WinUAE
2. Did you written IPF-disks with WinUAE XCopy trick? It seems to work, tested it with WinUAE on SuperDuper with turbo mode

Here you go :

-----------------------------------------

Developer Revolution Sofware has made a mistake during the
production of the disks. They've given one disk a wrong
name, so there DOESN'T EXIST any disk Nr. 11, but now we
have a boot disk 15 and another disk labeld disk 0.
Therefore the HD-installer on the disk doesn't work and
you would have to copy the files by hand into each sub-
directory called disk_0 to disk_15.

A patch was never released, but the missing disk 11 doesn't
affect the gameply in any way, if you play from disk. The
best version from "Beneath a steel sky", which was ever
released, is the CD32-version, which is also the talkie
version of this game. It doesn't contain any bugs and we
suggest you to download this version from our server. It
runs completely from your Amigas harddrive or an installed
Workbench for WinUAE (don't use AIAB!).

Please don't email us with any questions why disk 11 is
missing in the disk version. This is the original version
which was released in 1994 and it DOES work great.

Thats not a real problem, there are several threads on EAB about this.

I have used "Tracksaver GUI", you can use any diskcopy tool for disks without physical protections.
"Beneath a Stell Sky" is normal DOS format, but there is some sort of manual protection i think.

If you look at the CD32 version there is a folder called "Disk_11" which actually contains all of the speech.

So I don't think it was an error with the production of the disks, more an error with the installer expecting disk 11 (even though all the speech could not fit on a floppy).

But anyway, enough side tracking

wow, that was good explanation. This is clearly not an error. I remember when downloaded this game from bbs and uploaded to another one. It was about 75 mebabytes because of speech. Well, at least got my name to Finnish Dungeon BBS Hall of Fame. Phew.

No more side tracking, thanks guys.

I'd very much appreciate if v1.1 could be zoned again. I just checked, said set is still incomplete in TOSEC section of the file server (except for Swedish and Italian versions) as far as I can tell.

Ok zoned by myself. As you may know, if you die in BASS, restarting the game is not a good idea (this issue was fixed in the WHDLoad slave, but not when you play from the floppy disk images).
Your best bet would be to save at the very beginning, and then restore any saved game progress, should anything bad happen to your avatar. I've included the Virgin patch disk image in the archive, plus a set of ADF's I converted myself from the patched IPF's (valid move since the game is unprotected). Please let me know if you encounter any issue (other than the broken restart game feature).
