TCP/IP Stack

I've just bought myself a PCMCIA wireless NIC for my A1200 so that I'll be able to transfer disk images to my Amiga to WHDLoad without having to use slow cables. The problem is, I now need a TCP/IP stack. Which is the best one? Most programs seem to be compatible with Miami, but as I understand it Miami needs to be registered and keys can't be obtained anymore. I'm not bothered about the difficulty of setting up the stack. Are there any decent free TCP/IP stacks ot is there a way I can get a key for Miami?

Also, what would be the best way to transfer files to my Amiga? I could just set up and FTP server on my PC or Amiga but I was wondering if there was a Samba client. That would make it much easier. I don't use Windows on my desktop so Amiga Explorer is out of the question really.

Hmmm Samba also needs a TCP/IP stack!

Someone did distribute a keyfile for Miami through this board a while ago (dunno if it works?) and Genesis is free with OS3.9, There is a 1hr Miami demo free with OS3.5 and on the Aminet.

The Demo Version of Miami is acceptable though. (See Aminet).

I recommend using AmigaExplorer instead of Samba though... much easier to use.

I would use Miami Deluxe (MiamiDX), that's what I'm using here and in fact now when I'm typing this message

Ahhhh the smell of networking in the morning.... i was wondering why i woke up in a good mood lol...

tell ya what have you guys thought about the NEW LS120's i got two of the old ones (1 of them is in the windoze2k3 server here and one is in my miggy ) ) the new ones boast huge data store but i found 120MB seems damn efficent and its quick too....

then there is PARNET which i found agter sending a handfull of MP3's down the lead both miggy and or the PC would crash...

i got some luck with Miami DX and win 98 but it was an ardious 12 hour config process way back in 1999 *fecking gateways!!!!*

samba can be a lil turd when it dont wanna do something.. ( i have it running onlinux and i say it dont like windows environments...even though you set it up for it... lol )

This will help in the setting up if its any help to you

PC :

IP: 192.168.0.2
MASK: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.2

(point to itself if sharing inet connection or routers address of inet)

Amiga

IP: 192.168.0.10
MASK: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: gateway address same as on PC

Good Luck!!!!!

Will an Amiga be able to connect directly to the internet with a PCMCIA network card hooked up to a broadband modem, or does it require a PC to act as a gateway? I've just ordered a compatible network card in hope that I can connect directly.

it will (miami) and TCP/IP stack for the miggy will need a Gateway.. this need to be provided by (a) router or (b) PC..

Oh BTW you dont need samba unless you want to access shares on the PC - Amiga and vice cersa

Ah, that's good to know. Cheers. My broadband modem is one of those all-in-one jobbies with router and firewall.

I haven't got my card yet, but Lopos2000 is having problems connecting his up to the modem/router too.
