Bitmap Brothers serial number in bootblock
Bitmap Brothers games often have a serial number in the bootblock, e.g. in Speedball 2 it is "V1.00 VERSION 07:01:91 SERIAL NOamiga876543212 SPEEDBALL II COPYRIGHT 90/91 THE BITMAP BROTHERS"
Is there any significance in that number or was that just some silly attempt to keep people from copying the game because they thought that their copy was somehow unique and they could be identified as the buyer? |

They probably had a custom bootblock writer, that would write a unique serial number whenever they made a preview copy for magazine reviews/previews etc... that way they could trace the number back to the magazine that they sent it to, if it was leaked. Of course the final master disk for duplication would have also had a unique serial number written.
This is only a guess of course, but sounds like the kind of thing The Bitmap Brothers might do... |

Yeah, sounds reasonable. I forgot about those review copies. Would make sense to track them I guess.
