The command protocol is documented somewhat in the Linux MKE->ISA bridge driver. And probably in the WinUAE CDTV emulation source code.

Based on https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~...nasoniccd.html if the protocol is similar it might be easier to make something that talks CDTV on one end but operates on a drive image at the other. A bit like an internal CDTV Gotek, maybe with a WB tool to change the CD image.

Storage is cheap, I imagine the entire CDTV library could fit on an SD card these days.

Lots of talk here about emulating the CD drive...
I want to replace the CD drive if its possible - lucky lots of talk on that too!

As I said, Amiga 4K Checkmate first... I plan to finish design by end of Jan.

If the solution is ever found/created!

This picture I found in amongst my huge archive of random files, gives an idea how it may look with a new cd-drive fitted:

I have no idea where this picture came from?

Is it possible to use something like this:
https://terraonion.com/en/producto/terraonion-mode/
Multi Optical Disc Emulator?

It is FPGA based, so it can be reflashed for use on Amiga and it can also have 2TB HD which would fill most of the the CDTV and CD32 games + more.

You'd have to write the firmware for it

Interesting. It's the wrong way around for CDTV but proof that simple conversion is possible at least in one direction

I assumed this was the case! Somebody went to the trouble of interfacing one of these old cd drives to a modern computer ide port.

If this can be made bi-directional that would mean the battle is nearly won

it is high time that a CD drive emulator, i.e. ODE for amiga cd32 / CDtv comes out, i have already tried to raise the topic at a1k, with an extra thread. But the electronic engineers there didn't seem to be very interested, the best would be a solution that also works on all other amigas and still offers a reasonable cd audio paula mixer.

The A570 could also be catered for.

CD32 it seems. Or the "mystery mechanism" should be the CDTV, but I don't see the connection

I'm a bit reluctant to pre-order one straight away, but I am interested to fit my CD32 with one.

CDTV support would be unlikely but not impossible. The CD32 has a relatively standard "cd loader" mechanism whereas the CDTV has custom everything.

Way to expensive, for what it is to justify buying for my CDTV (or even my CD32).
Same as 2MB Chip upgrade.

How about board that converts CDTV custom interface to IDE? or SATA?
